Little Details

The majority of the members of little_details - at least the ones that habitually respond - would be horrible reference librarians. Don't ask us about that! That's too complicated! You didn't ask right! Have you even LOOKED?! I can't remember the last time I saw a post there where the poster wasn't jumped on or snarked at for one reason or the other ( Read more... )

I left that comm for exactly this reason. It wasn't helping me anymore, just giving me daily pseudo-wank at everything anyone asked. >_>

Yeah, I like asked a question there once, so its not like I'd be losing anything other than irritating wank.

logophilos in particular needs to shut the fuck up count to thirty before she responds to anything.

It's gotten worse lately, probably because of the spotlight and all the new members with mile-long lists of stuff to find for them >_<

Me, still staying. One, because I've got no competition in answering the Poland questions, and two, because it's still helpful sometimes. Though not as much as it purports itself to be. (I'm still not sure I found the right place for a seventeeth-century duel in Vienna.)

I've not asked a question since my failed NaNo, and I rarely answer anything either, so I'm not sure if its really worth it for me. And it has gotten worse since the spotlight, but imo, its only encouraged the snarky bitches to be snarkier and bitchier, including a couple that seem to have something delightful to say no matter what the question may be.

I used to read it because it was interesting to learn all these little factoids; now, that interest is nearly outweighed by irritation at the inability to be at least polite. Seriously people, its a question. No one is dragging you by the heels around the walls of Troy.

The one that set me off today WAS a milelong list - I just think it would have been much more polite and productive to say something like "you have a lot of big research questions here, and you might want to go see a reference librarian for help. We generally just answer small details."

They can be okay at answering some questions, but frankly, my enjoyment of the community has been so shadowed by the rampant negativity that I currently can't imagine it providing me with anything I couldn't get elsewhere. If you can get all your info from the flist and RL friends, I say go that route.
