(a) must happen to some people, sometime. It's just that I have never heard of it happening to anyone, and the person from the university who ran the 'how to survive your viva' course had never heard of anyone.
The English Fief are Tol Nimfalas, who around 1990 I knew as a group of people who Turned Up Late to Northfarthing Innmoots, but since then have become a group of friends who have indulged my desire to type Thesis while they went out walking (and did not laugh too loud when I joined them in the Wrong Shoes on a few occasions).#
I can't draw a Venn diagram in LJ, but *here* is a big circle which is the TS, and *here* is a small circle wich is Tol Nim, which 80% overlaps with the TS.
Thanks! I am cheering myself up with the thought that it's just a chance to fix the stuff I know needs fixing. I am going to be flaming infuriated if they want me to fix stuff which is perfectly fine.
Yé! utúvienyes! Huzzah, enjoy the plonk and duck and a well deserved rest. My money is on a) but my large acquaintance of PhDers means a-c are all possible outcomes, although b) is the most common.
ETA na_lon and na_quis send their congratulations on submitting too!
Yay! I got something like an a)-ish b), in that they told me to make some changes but they were cosmetic: a couple dozen typos (spellcheck being pointless when quoting swathes of C18th French) and the addition of a book I hadn't been able to trace a copy of in the dreary days before COPAC. So you never know!
Writing the acknowledgements was the most fun part, and I know the external examiner read it, because next to the acknowledgements to "my grandparents, all six of them" there was a pencilled "!" :-)

(Will I get shouted at if I say that I believe (a) happened to louisedennis?)

I have one external, and one internal. The internal is (reportedly) pro-student, as a whole, and I've always found her a nice person, and pro-me.
