(So basically I ( Read more... )

I did consider ablation (as well as IUD or other birth control), but I'm at the point where I want a final solution (er, not to be all Hitler ;) ). Ablation isn't guaranteed to stop periods, and I've gotten to the point where I've lost patience. Ablation wouldn't prevent endo from taking up housing in my uterus either. I've tried so many things over the years and I'm just so very very done with my uterus. I don't think it is any kind of coincidence that every time I've come the closest to killing myself, I was on my period. The pain is just one more push, and more and more, my hormones seem to be pushing me towards suicidal impulses on my period. So I'm hoping this will make a huge difference. Since I'm (hoping to) retain my ovaries, I might still experience some form of PMS, but really hoping it will be less. But the menstrual cramps are the worse part of it by far. If I were 40, let alone 50 or 55, I would probably let them take my ovaries too, but 30 is really pushing it and I fear what kind of consequences there would be ( ... )

I'm not trying to scare you, just giving you fair warning, about the ultrasound. Granted, I got a graduating student as my ultrasound tech, but it was a little more unpleasant than I was expecting. I am not at ALL squeamish or modest, so the idea of the procedure is not troubling for me. First the tech did a external ultrasound right around where the ovaries are, and she was pressing down much harder than I expected, but it was only a little painful. Then she let me put in the wand myself under a blanket, which basically looks like a very long hard plastic dildo (seriously, it looks remarkably like those dirt-cheap hard, pointy plastic 1.2" type vibrators, and it was covered with a condom-like thing and lubed up). Then she grabbed the end and poked often and wriggled the thing constantly for 25 DAMN MINUTES. The poking was not gentle and it did hurt some, especially on my sensitive cervix. I could not believe how long it took to finish. I suggest popping some painkillers beforehand. I felt bruised inside for about 3 days.
