Title: Rain
Disclaimer: Neither Supernatural or Charmed belong to me.
Summary: Charmed xover. "Sam didn’t know if he could start crying in the rain, didn’t know if there was enough rain to wash away the tears that would fall forever."
Sam Winchester liked the rain.
He remembered it like it was yesterday. A thirteen-year-old Dean solemnly told him that it was okay to cry in the rain because the rain washed the tears away. Nobody could see you. Nobody could hear you. You could cry your eyes out and still be a big boy.
And Sam cried for the puppy they found in an alley only a week before.
And the rain washed the tears away.
Except, now, he wasn’t going to be crying for a puppy. He was going to be crying for a big brother that was his whole world. He was going to be crying for a father he might not like but he definitely loved. Sam didn’t know if he could start crying in the rain, didn’t know if there was enough rain to wash away the tears that would fall forever.
And she sat beside him, bright red raincoat pulled over her head.
And Sam looked in the other direction.
And she touched his shoulder, barely there on a kid that had gone numb.
And he closed his eyes.
“It’s okay to be sad,” said Paige Mathews.
Sam closed his eyes. She was going to help him, she had said. She was going to find him a nice family that wasn’t his family. He’d be with sweet people who weren’t his parents. He might even have a brother who wasn’t his brother.
“It’s okay to cry.”
Sam shut his eyes even tighter, so that his face was all scrunched up. He couldn’t cry because he’d never be able to stop and thirteen-years-old was too old to cry like that. He had to be a big boy, a man. He had to be strong enough to take care of himself because he was all he had now.
“Nobody will know.”
Sam knew they wouldn’t. They never did. They didn’t know how much his family fought, how much they sacrificed. They didn’t know that the two mangled bodies in the morgue weren’t just another two people in a long line of victims but two heroes who went out there knowing they might die.
He felt Paige’s fingers touch his cheek, cold and wet. “The rain will wash it all away.”
And he cried.
And she pulled him toward her. She hugged him. She cried with him, sympathy mixed with remembered pain.
And the rain washed their tears away.
