'Gossip Girl' Actor Cast as President in Sharon Stone's TNT Pilot
5:45 PM PST 2/4/2014 by Philiana Ng, Lesley Goldberg

TNT's Agent X drama has found its president. Gossip Girl alum John Shea has joined the drama project led by Sharon Stone, who plays the first female vice president, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Described as National Treasure meets The Bourne Identity, Agent X follows an unseen person who works to protect the country and its citizens, in times of extreme crisis and by any means necessary, from all threats when traditional law and government aren't in a position to help. Created by the original founding fathers but hidden from the view of the public, there is an agent of unknown identity that is trained and ready to serve -- deployed only at the careful discretion of Vice President Natalie Maccabee (Stone). Shea will play President Eckhart, a Southern politician and a "salt of the earth" man who gives Natalie the key to her new mansion and introduces her to Malcolm Millar, and later chairs the emergency Cabinet meeting after Missy Stanton is kidnapped.

From The Bourne Identity's William Blake Herron, the action-adventure project hails from Turner Originals. Armyan Bernstein (Air Force One, Children of Men and Castle) is on board to executive produce. Mike Colter co-stars as Speaker of the House Miles Latham. Shea appeared on The CW's Gossip Girl as Blair Waldorf's gay father, Harold, and starred in Mutant X and Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman as Lex Luthor. Recent TV credits include The Good Wife, Law & Order and Law & Order: Criminal Intent. He is repped by SMS Talent, Henraux Management and Shelter Entertainment.

EXCLUSIVE : AGENT X Scoop: Interviews with Stars Jeff Hephner, Gerald McRaney and John Shea
By Merrill Barr Oct 22, 2015

With the launch of series like THE LIBRARIANS, it’s also clear the company has no interest in losing the audience that once came for shows like LEVERAGE, and it’s in that spirit we find ourselves bearing witness to the channel’s newest series, AGENT X. Starring Sharon Stone and Jeff Hephner, AGENT X asks a question many have asked over the years: why does the second most important person in the executive branch have next to no real power? Well, according to the new William Blake Herron series, it’s because their power is hidden under lock & key (literally) in a secret provision in the original constitution stating the Vice President of The United States takes charge of an agent of unknown identity to help aid in times of dire peril. As one may imagine, this agent’s codename is none other than AGENT X. At the red carpet premiere, we caught up some of the show’s cast, including stars Jeff Hephner, Gerald McRaney and John Shea, to talk action, history and more.
....
JOHN SHEA
How much do you think Eckhart’s experience in working with AGENT X as Vice President plays into his actions as President?
SHEA: Well, look, he’s been the understudy for this role for eight years. He’s run the AGENT X program, he understand exactly what it entails, he knows all the dangers and all the pitfalls and so when he chooses [Natalie] to be his running mate and Vice President, he can pass the baton to here. But he knows he’s asking her to do a really difficult job.

Eckhart seems like a guy that really believes in the system. Do you view him that way?
SHEA: Well, look, he’s a military guy. The back story is that he served. He understands the military. He’s proud to be commander and chief. So he understands the need for a guy like John Case, an AGENT X, to defend against the other military black-ops people that our enemies have.

Last question: you did do Mutant X a long time ago, and now, recently, it was announced Fox is going to be doing two new X-Men shows. Would you ever want to explore stepping back into that world at all?
SHEA: Look, it was a fantastic thing to do. It was really fun for me. I had done the kind of action/adventure thing before on LOIS & CLARK, where I played Lex Luthor for Warner Bros., and I love that sci-fi world. But, I’ll tell you that the acting opportunities in the sci-fi world, where they’re fun, they’re not really what I’m born to do. I’m born to do stuff like this. I’m born to play serious, 1-on-1 scenes with a great actress like Sharon Stone, and I love every minute of it.

'Agent X' Cancelled After Season 1; Low Ratings To Blame For The Boot?
by Marie De Vera / Jan 13, 2016 10:28 PM EST

"Agent X" has been cancelled after airing its first season. Examiner confirmed that the critically-acclaimed TV series will not be having its second season as announced by TNT TV network. The show's cancellation is one just one of many as fellow TNT shows "Public Morals" and "Legends" are also getting the boot. However, no reason has been given as to why "Agent X" was cancelled as of press time. But the rumor mill claims that "Agent X" was axed after it garnered low TV ratings but this speculation, however, remains unverified. TV Guide supported the news and even cited that the show's cancellation came amid the series' casting of powerhouse actress Sharon Stone. Sharon Stone plays the role of Vice President Natalie Maccabee who handles a government secret intelligence group where she met operative John Case played by Jeff Hephner. Other cast members of "Agent X" are John Shea, Gerald McRaney, Mike Colter, Jamey Sheridan and James Earl Jones. With the news of the show being cancelled, many "Agent X" fans are speculating about how season 1 might end. In a report by the TV Series Finale, it was said that "Agent X" will end with two back-to-back episodes.
