New Straits Times 9/29/92: John Shea Shea Wins Fame for role as Baby M's Dad
He has never made the mistake of rushing into a part purely for the money. "I hate to say how many movies I tested for and never got." Shea is objective about his roles -- and they include real life spy Elie Cohen in The Impossible Spy, a death-defying illusionist in Magic Moments and an AIDS campaigner in the theatre play The Normal Heart. (Shea will also be seen on TV2 in Small Sacrifices later.) Part of this objectivity stems from his interest in I-Ching, the oriental philosophy which is his guide. "It is an integral part of me. I look upon the system as a navigational device that mirrors your own conscience. Intuition is your best bet as far as I am concerned. I am double Aries with both moon and sun, so I am full of energy. That must be why I love theatre so much, even though it is much more demanding than the movies."
