Following high school, Victoria attended York University where she studied anatomy, biomechanics and sociology, among other disciplines, to earn a degree with honors in kinesiology. She graduated summa cum laude and went on to work at the University in its Human Performance Lab, testing such elite professional athletes as the Toronto Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets and San Jose Sharks. She was also offered a scholarship to the master's program in physiotherapy at the University of Toronto but declined, realizing she wanted to explore other interests. She soon began writing a book on fitness and bodybuilding with one of her former university professors. When it was time to buy photos for the publication, she went to Robert Kennedy, publisher of MuscleMag, one of the largest fitness magazines, and Oxygen, a brand new magazine dedicated to women's fitness.

Before starting her acting career, Victoria Pratt made a notable mark in the fitness world as an athlete performance tester (she worked with the Toronto Maple Leafs and San Jose Sharks, among others) and author.

She graduated summa cum laude with a degree in kinesiology. She turned down a scholarship for a master's program in physiotherapy to begin working in the university's athletic performance testing facility and co-author a book on fitness. The latter project led her to ask her former professor Robert Kennedy, the publisher of such fitness magazines as Oxygen and MuscleMag, for some pictures of athletes for the book.

Sometimes, the path to TV stardom can be a long and circuitous route. Just ask Victoria Pratt. The Canadian actress plays Andrea Battle, the former police partner of Brett Hopper (Taye Diggs) on Day Break. But acting wasn't exactly her chosen profession. A native of Chelsey, Ont., Pratt has a degree in kinesiology. And, while she was studying at Toronto's York University, she was busy working at the school's human-performance laboratory. "I got a scholarship to work in the university while I was going to school there," Pratt told CanWest News Service during a press session for her show in Los Angeles. "We would do fitness testing for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets during their training camps. And for figure skaters in Canada.
"We would do drug testing. And testing on firefighters to try to find suits that would help them in a fire, so that they could stay in there longer and resist the heat."

'Soda Springs' movie review
April 5, 2012 Daniel Delago

Me - Victoria, what made you decide to make acting a professional career?
Victoria - I have a Kinesiology degree from York University in Toronto. I was writing a book with one of my professors about fitness and bodybuilding. It was the publisher of the Muscle Magazine that suggested I do some fitness modeling. This led me to take acting classes.
