Lauren Lee Smith, Gil Bellows Join 'First Round Down'

CSI's Lauren Lee Smith and Gil Bellows are to star in First Round Down, the Canadian action comedy from writers-directors Brett Butler and Jason Butler. The indie, set to shoot in northern Ontario in 2015, will also star Jared Keeso (Elysium) and Ennis Esmer. Lee Smith and Esmer co-starred in Jeremy Lalonde's How to Plan an Orgy in a Small Town, a Canadian theatrical comedy that also starred Lauren Holly and The Killing star Jewel Staite. First Round Down portrays a former junior hockey star and hitman returning home to escape his criminal past, only to see his best friend and former girlfriend wreak havoc with his shot at redemption. The film, from Substance Productions, the Butler brothers' production shingle, and executive producer Marina Cordoni Entertainment, will be shopped for presales in Berlin.
