Official Synopsis: At a vacant loading dock, Marc Griffin (Paul Popowich), a mutant with the power to steal people's memories, argues with his girlfriend, Megan Alexander (Jocelyn Snowdon). She is insistent on him going into the underground for protection. Frustrated and enraged, Marc shoves Megan, sending her plummeting down a flight of stairs. Adam (John Shea), who has an appointment to meet with the couple, arrives only to find Griffin kneeling over his lifeless girlfriend. Before Adam can react to the situation, Griffin fixes him with a mesmerizing stare, collapsing him to the ground. As Adam slowly regains consciousness, he finds Griffin standing over him wielding a gun, and Megan lying motionless on the floor. Griffin, grief-stricken over Megan's death, blames Adam for her murder. Confused and with no memory whatsoever, Adam shakes his head in disbelief. Hearing the sounds of approaching police sirens, Adam escapes out of the loading dock not knowing who he is, or where he is going. At Genomex, Lena Blake (Tiara Sorensen), a mutant with a protective second eyelid and the ability to fire a toxic vapor from her mouth, informs Eckhart (Tom McCamus) about Marc and his ability to absorb people's memories. Lena vows to Eckhart that she will capture Griffin and bring him back to Genomex for observation. Meanwhile at Sanctuary, the Mutant X team becomes increasingly concerned when they try unsuccessfully to contact Adam on his comlink. When the team sets out to search for Adam, Jesse (Forbes March) spots a police sketch of the suspect wanted for the murder of Megan Alexander. To their surprise, the suspect is Adam! Outside the local police station, Lena greets Griffin with a blow of her toxic vapor, which renders him temporarily blind and under her control. Suddenly, Adam appears and hits Lena with a powerful kick that sends her flying. Adam drags the blinded Griffin down the alley, and they escape to the safety of Megan's apartment. Adam informs him that he needs his help in bringing back his memory. Griffin continues to insist that Adam is responsible for Megan's death, but Adam senses that Griffin is lying. Fed up with Adam's questioning, Griffin leaves the apartment and is immediately captured by two agents, who haul him off to Genomex. Minutes later, Emma (Lauren Lee Smith) and Brennan (Victor Webster) find Adam outside of Megan's apartment. Not recognizing them, Adam prepares to fight when a police car suddenly arrives and arrests him for Megan's murder. Meanwhile, back at Genomex, Lena and Eckhart prepare to retrieve Adam's memory, including security codes and safehouse locations. During the procedure, however, they find that Adam's memory contains an overload of information. Since Griffin is only able to recite disjointed scientific equations, Eckhart deems him useless and is ready to dispose of him. Suddenly, Griffin reveals that he knows the location of Sanctuary. In the meantime, Jesse and Brennan pay a visit to Adam in jail, informing him that Griffin has stolen his memory and framed him for the murder of Megan. Realizing that Jesse and Brennan are telling the truth, Adam asks them to spring him from the jail cell and bring him back to Sanctuary. With a sizzling arc of electricity, Brennan blasts the jail cell's electronic lock, setting Adam free. Back at Sanctuary, Adam scans the database in an effort to absorb and restore as much knowledge to his brain as possible. Meanwhile, Brennan, Jesse and Shalimar (Victoria Pratt) work to upgrade Sanctuary's security system to prevent Eckhart, Griffin and Lena from breaking in. They realize they're too late, however, when the threesome appears inside Sanctuary accompanied by a contingent of agents who are ready to take over. Without hesitation, the Mutant X team takes down Lena and the agents, while Emma uses her telempathic powers to force Griffin into returning Adam's memory to him and confessing the truth about Megan's death. With his memory restored, Adam finds himself face to face with Eckhart. Without a beat, Adam strikes Eckhart with a powerful punch, which knocks him senseless. The Mutant X team looks on with pure satisfaction, knowing the old Adam is back.

Quotes:
Jesse: It is far too early to be exerting that kind of energy, Shal. It’s not normal.
Shalimar: Looks like someone could use a cup coffee.
Brennan: Better make it a pot. Look at him!

Jesse: He must have made it home pretty late last night.
Brennan: Or maybe he just didn't make it home at all. Come on, even geniuses need to get their groove on once in a while.

Lena Blake: He won’t know which end is up by the time I’m through with him.
Mason: Could you do that again?

Lena: We need to talk.
Marc Griffin: Get out of my way!
Lena: I don’t handle rejection very well. Guess you think a girl could just get lost in those eyes, huh? Guess again.

Adam: I need your help.
Marc: Let me guess. You don’t know where to hide.
Adam: Yeah, something like that.
Marc: I know a place.
Adam: Good. So we’ve got the blind leading the stupid.

Marc: Why’d you save me back there?
Adam: Cause I need some help in finding out who I am, and you’re the only person I know.
Marc: Why would I help you? You killed my girlfriend.
Adam: I don’t believe that for a second, and I don’t think you do either.
Marc: You don’t know what I think!
Adam: Look, last night I broke into a doctor’s office and did a little research on my condition.
Marc: Amnesia.
Adam: Yeah. It’s either retrograde, post-hypnotic, or emotional hysterical, usually caused by trauma. And I ruled out injury because I know that you lied to me about hitting my head. I also found out that memory loss is usually treated by sodium amobarbital or thiopental, which, fortunately for you, did nothing to alleviate my condition. So I want you to tell me what’s going on.
Marc: You sure don’t sound like a guy with amnesia to me.

Mason: Adam, a fugitive from justice. Of course, that’s what I’ve been calling him all along.

Jesse: Shalimar, none of us even want to consider this, but has it crossed your mind that we might be wrong? I mean, what if Adam was responsible for Megan’s murder?
Shalimar: What? Listen, we both know Adam’s not capable of murder.
Jesse: Yeah, right. I wish I knew what I was looking for, then I might know how to find it.
Shalimar: That’s why you’re with me.

Mason: We both know you’ve pilfered Adam’s memories. How else could you frame him for murder?
Marc: I don’t have any memories, Mason. I didn’t frame anyone for murder either.
Mason: Then how did you know my first name?

Mason: Considering Mr. Griffin has wiped his slate clean, Adam must have no idea who to trust.
Lena: Not at all. His world has been quite literally turned upside down.
Mason: Well, then perhaps he’d be receptive to a familiar face from the past.

Mason: Adam! Thank God you’re all right.
Adam: Who are you?
Mason: Well, they said you had a memory lapse. I would never have believed it if I hadn’t seen with my own eyes. Adam, it’s Mason. Mason Eckhart.
Adam: You know what happened to me?
Mason: A band of outlaws set you up. Thieves, liars the lot of them. They call themselves Mutant X.
Adam: And Griffin’s one of these mutants?
Mason: Yes, I’m afraid so. Now our doctors are working feverishly to assess what he did to you so we can reverse the process.
Adam: Restore my memory?
Mason: God willing. We desperately need you back, Adam, as soon as possible.
Adam: Wait, wait, wait. You and I work together?
Mason: I keep forgetting you’re in the dark here. Bastards! We work at Genomex, a biotech firm which is actually a secret branch of US intelligence. You’re our cheif biogeneticist.
Adam: And this is why they’re trying to set me up?
Mason: Well, to discredit Genomex and myself.
Adam: Right. This makes some sense. But now, wait, wait. These mutants, are their abilities the result of natural evolution?
Mason: Sadly, no. These anomalies are the tragic results of genetic experimentations gone wrong. Our job is to protect the world from their freakish powers.
Adam: Oh, so you and I are trying to cure these anomalies?
Mason: Adam, this isn’t the place to discuss these sensitive matters. Trust me, it will all be clear we get you home to Genomex.
Adam: How can you convince the cops to let me out? And what makes you so sure that I’m so innocent?
Mason: Adam, please. We both know you’d never be capable of something so barbarous as murder.
Guard: Hey, time's up.
Mason: Dig deep into your core to find the inner strength you need in this time of struggle. I only ask you to be patient. I’m pulling as many strings as I can to arrange for your release.
Adam: Mason? Thank you.

Shalimar: Wait 'til I get my hands on this guy. I'll give him some memories of my own.

Jesse: Adam, it’s me. It’s Jesse.
Adam: You’re one of them, aren’t you? You’re Mutant X.
Jesse: You remember?
Adam: No. My friend Mason Eckhart told me all about you. You and your kind.

Adam: I designed this? Not bad.
Brennan: Yeah, I’ll say.
Jesse: How’s it feel to be home?
Adam: I wish I could say it looks familiar, but somehow it feels right.

Adam: For some reason, I seem to be pretty good at picking things up.
Emma: You think?

Lena: We’ve just received word from the prison. Adam’s escaped.
Mason: And my day just keeps getting better by the minute.

Mason: I’ve always dreamt that this day would come.
Marc: That’s the dojo. It has a variety of functions, one of which is a virtual prison. They’re not going anywhere unless you want them to.
Lena: What do you plan on doing with this place?
Mason: It will be converted into a secret wing of Genomex. My pied de terre. Collect the others while I explore the rest of my home.

Shalimar: Get the hell out of my house.

Adam: What, are you just having a little a look around?
Mason: Adam, thank God you’re all right. We’ve come to rescue you from these monsters and take you back to Genomex.
Adam: No, I like it here.
Mason: You’re...
Adam: Back to my old self.
Mason: Ah.
Adam: Yeah. So why don’t you do yourself a favor and get your ass out of my Sanctuary?
Mason: I don’t think so. Since I’ve discovered you’re little hideout, your cloak of secrecy is all but vanished. Let’s face it, Adam. It’s over. [Adam punches him]
Emma: Looks like it worked.
Adam: Yeah.
Shalimar: You all right?
Adam: Yeah. Never better.
Brennan: Well, I guess that explains the fire back in your eyes.
Adam: You have no idea how long I've wanted to do that.

Mason: What did you say your name was? Never mind, it’s not important now. What I want to know is, what are all these people doing here?
Lena: I’m not exactly sure, sir.
Mason: Well, then. Back to... where you were. I would appreciate it if you would tell me where my office is.

Trivia & Nitpicks: Jesse is not a morning person. Brennan is oddly awake enough to deal with sparring with Shalimar. Someone must've finally convinced him to buy that coffee maker. (c.f. "Whiter Shade of Pale") Either that or Brennan was taking the heat off Jesse for some reason...

Shalimar can smell what blood is Adam's and what isn't (c.f. "The Hand of God").
Also, this is the first use of yellow feral vision.

Adam gets an EDD scan and he doesn't have to wear spandex! This is probably a good thing, but what's the purpose of the spandex if it's not strictly necessary? (Besides ratings, I mean.)

Marc Griffin can't process all of Adam's memories because he's not smart enough. I find this amusing.

Emma goes for the jugular by making Marc think she's Megan.

What's Adam doing out of Sanctuary alone? It was a bad idea in "Altered Ego," and it's a worse idea now.

That's really a dumb way for Megan to fall. I mean, how often do you lose your balance like that? And if there's a hole ahead of you, wouldn't you be more careful? Honestly, the teaser is one big Plot Device.

Marc and Megan are arguing on the upper level, but Adam walks in through a door in the lower level. How did he know to come down there in the first place?

Where did the gun that Marc has come from?

Emma has a checkup, which is how the team knows something is wrong. How often does Adam administer these check ups anyway? (I suspect no one on that team needs to worry about their season 3 expiration dates.)

The team realizes that Marc Griffin must have their security codes and changes them. Took them long enough to change the security codes. You'd think that would a no-brainer thing to do. Why doesn't L*E*X*A get changed at this point? Also, this doesn't keep Griffin from getting Mason in. Adam must've left a back door for himself. It's likely this door that Lexa uses in season 3.

How does amnesiac Adam know to ditch his comlink? And if he doesn't know that, why does he ditch it?

And while we're on the why's, I still don't get why Adam kidnaps Marc. All things considered, it doesn't make a lot of sense. Why doesn't Adam start grilling Brennan and Emma for answers the second he realizes that they know him? Generally someone looking for you is going to be more helpful than someone who's trying to set you up for murder.

That's a very good artist's rendering of the murder suspect. Almost photorealistic. Is it just me, or did they just use John Shea's head shot?

Mason scamming Adam. Wild. At least he’s better at it than Marc, who had over 14 hours to come up with a plausible story, and still failed miserably.

Adam doesn’t remember Mutant X, Genomex, or Mason. But he remembers Megan’s mother right off the bat. Does that strike anyone else as suspicious? Just what kind of relationship did Adam have with Megan’s mother, anyway?

Mason storms Sanctuary with all of six people for backup: Lena, Marc, and four GS agents. Why on earth doesn’t he bring more manpower?

Confused Eckhart is fun!
