Plausible deniability

It's a phrase that's been in my head all week. I think they burnt it into my synapses when I was elected, along with the ability to doublespeak.

Jean-Paul's interview is out.

RG: But he DOES advocate forcing mutants to hand their identities over to the government. Controlling the population.

JPB: Yes.

I think I may come after you with a letter ( Read more... )

mutant registration, hate crime, jean-paul

Try comparisons with the mentally ill, who self-harm or harm others because they cannot control themselves.

Try comparisons with a Typhoid Mary type.

Mutants are a unique case, but not entirely unprecedented.

Mutation is mental illness? Mutants are sick? Sick because we possess a specific genome?

I cannot even stand to speak with you a moment longer. I do hope that this little interaction of ours becomes public, and the world sees you for what you really are, you disgusting homo sapiens.

OOC: mun gives you nothing but love, but he's a bit infuriated.

Mutation is quite obviously not a mental illness, nor a physical one - although I'm aware that some mutants do have mental and/or physical problems as a result of their mutations.

My point, as you well know, is that crimes are not always necessary to warrant special measures, sometimes including confinement.

It's been a pleasure as always.

So you're willin' ta lock people up because they might become a danger?

Why not do that with humans too? Oh, well his DAD was a pedophile so hey, HE might be as well. Or wait, she lives in the ghetto so the probability of her killin' someone is higher than someone that don't, so hey, throw her in that cell as well.

That's INSANE!

Yes, what you're proposing would be insane. However, that's not what I am proposing.

Someone who can kill by thinking it is a danger by any definition, regardless of his intent. You think Lehnsherr wouldn't be a danger, even if he'd never committed a crime in his life?

Yeah, it is. Just seems insane when the word mutant is substituted with somethin' else.

Just because someone can kill by thinkin' it don't mean they will.

An' of course he wouldn't be.

See, there ya go again lettin' your fear control ya.

Mutants cannot be directly equated with any other minority or group. It doesn't work that way.

I know. But they might. And how do we, in all good faith, take that risk?

I think we have rather different definitions of "danger".

The first mutant I ever knowingly met assaulted and abducted me. Blame Lehnsherr for any bad impressions I formed of mutants. Fortunately, others are changing that perspective.

The first mutant I ever knowingly met assaulted and abducted me.

I highly doubt that. Probably just the first one you ever knew was a mutant.

I know. But they might. And how do we, in all good faith, take that risk?

So yes, please, lets confine them an' throw away the key. Brilliant plan.

That would be what I just said, yes.

That bears about 1% relation to what I've been saying.

So then what would ya do with someone like that? Someone who could kill or manipulate anyone with their mind? What is your proposal?
