NPR was broadcasting President Bush's address regarding the status of things in Iraq over the last year and I caught this little gem:

"The local people were suffereing under the Taliban-like rule of al Qaeda, and they were sick of it.  So they asked us for help."

It's sad, though, because this kind of stuff no longer surprises me anymore. It's kind of like: "Mmmkay. When's the 2008 election again?" Sigh.

I shouldn't be surprised, I really shouldn't! I have a freaking degree in politics- it's the only consistent interest I've held for the past 19 years- but every time I take a breath and think we've reached the absolute limit of our own idiocy, something like this happens and the bottom drops out. It's like the current administration is a black hole of intelligence, knowledge, and free thought, and there is no end to our ability to delude ourselves!

That being said: I love my icon.
