First day over. Detroit is a horrible place (more about that later), but the competition has been terrific so far!

I love them! I'm so excited to see Mad and Zach's gorgeous FD! I hope they perform it as well as in NHT or better and get the audience on their feet and wow the judges. They are less than a point behind the Shibs, I like the Shibs, but I think Madi and Zach were actually better--they had a more difficult entry into their twizzles, for one--but I read somewhere that three sets of twizzles gets higher points than two with a difficult entry. These rules are so baffling

I said that about the politicking to kalliopeia last night, too. I'm pretty sure that has a lot to do with their GOE. And no, they can't do the kind of crazy rotational lifts that some of the pairs with tiny ladies can, but they really bring so much more to the table. Like the British Eurosport guys said at NHT: "He dances WITH her". Yup. And they have lovely edges and terrific musicality.

I expected more of the Italians. They were good, and fast, but no real spark there for me. She is definitely the one I pay attention in that team, but not because of the way he presents her (like Zach presents Madi). He just is kind of...meh.
