First and formost -
David Archuleta's single "Something 'Bout Love" is now available for purchase on iTunes. Please go buy it, it's really fun and a great summer track.
Second, my favorite female artist to come from American Idol,
Brooke White,
just blogged her top 12 favorite albums with insightful reasons and observations. I'll do a post on her in a few weeks, but I love her taste, her musicianship, and in general her. :)
And now back to your regular scheduled programming.
MARINA AND THE DIAMONDS
Marina Diamandis is a twenty-five year old singer-songwriter from the UK who released her debut album "The Family Jewels" this past February. She's already a critical darling and being hailed as one of the strongest artists debuting this year, with her alternatively fun and insightful lyrics and blend of new wave and piano-based musical arrangements. Marina describes her album as "a body of work largely inspired by the seduction of commercialism, modern social values, family and female sexuality" and her influences range from Kate Bush and PJ Harvey to Britney Spears and Blondie. And for the record, "The Diamonds" is not her backing band, but rather her fans (ala Lady Gaga's "little monsters").
I first heard of her when reading Vh1's Best Week Ever blog and I came across this adorable video of elementary school kids singing her debut single "I Am Not A Robot":

Of course, I had to look up the original song and then on was hooked. Every song on "The Family Jewels" is amazing. Here are a few of my favorites:
