Imogen Heap and fun. have albums coming out tomorrow. They're both great so you should check those out. :) I wasn't going to have those be my recommendations for this week because I like to let albums grow on me for a while before reviewing them and it's probably pretty easy to find download links for those albums anyway (if you can't though, just let me know and I'll upload them). Today I thought I'd so something different and instead of just posting a download link for an artist and album, I'd do a theme.
I always love looking for b-sides for artists, especially if I'm just starting to get in to them. It helps you get to know the artist better and sometimes they end up being my favorite songs by those artists. B-Sides can be unreleased songs, demos, covers, live songs or any rare stuff. Sites like
B Sides R Us post a ton of unreleased songs. Sometimes, artists will make an album full of b-sides. These are two of my favorite official releases of b-sides:
Mae - Destination: B-Sides
Mae is one of my favorite bands and I love this b-side album which was put out after their first album, Destination: Beautiful. The title of the album is Destination: B-Sides, playing off the title of their first album. The album has a lot of acoustic, live and remixes of original songs. The acoustic version of "Sun" and "Giving it Away" are probably even better than the original versions. They also include a couple of new songs, such as "Awakening" (that has vocals by their keyboardist) and "Futuro" (a really pretty instrumental song).
Download The Format - B-Sides & Rarities
I started getting more in to The Format after listening to this album. It has some demos from their album, Dog Problems, like "Dead End" and "Time Bomb". It also includes new stuff though, like "Threes", a song not released anywhere else. I also love the covers they do, such as the "Do You Believe in Magic?", which is a lot of fun.
Download I also uploaded these for someone so I thought I'd post them too:
