The sunlight poured into the room through the slight cracks of the closed curtains. I sat cross-legged on the piano chair with my back to the piano in the unreachable shadows where the sunlight strained to reach. My guitar was in my arms as I lightly strummed the strings with my fingers and my earphones blocked out the sounds my alarm clock was making, announcing it to be seven o'clock in the morning. I held a piece of paper, which happend to be a handwritten score written by me, then dropped it down along with the scattered sheets all around where I was sitting.
After fifteen more minutes, I stretched my arms up toward the ceiling then placed my guitar up against the wall next to the piano. My legs felt cramped after sitting like that for ten hours straight, so I stretched them out also. Standing up, I felt the sheets of paper under my bare feet. Although realloy lazy, I bent down and started to pick up the sheets and piled them up, leaving them on the piano chair. I could almost hear every instrument play when I looked around the studio. In there were three guitars, a drum set, two bass guitars, a keyboard, an upright piano, a violin, a flute, many stands, a few microphones, and wires all over the floor. Stepping over all the wires, I made my way to the curtains and opened them. At that moment a bright light streamed in. I turned my head to avoid the light from hitting my eyes. Then turned around and looked up at the clock which appeared to show twenty after seven now. I took my earphones off my ears and was blasted by the loud noise my alarm clock was making from my bedroom, which was downstairs. Still holding my MP3 in my hand, I ran downstairs to get ready for the day and also to shut off the annoying alarm.
After taking a quick shower, I went to the kitchen. With the towel still on my head, I popped in a slice of bread into the toaster. Opening up the fridge, I took out a carton of milk then placed it on the counter nearest to the door. Then retreated back into my bedroom. I dried my hair with the tweol that was still plopped on my head. It was easy to dry the red shades of short hair in a matter of minutes. After I tossed the towel into the hamper, I opened a box which revealed all sorts of jewerly. I took eight earrings out and closed it up again, four of which were small rings and the rest were studs. Placing them into each earhold, I looked at myself in the mirror which was held in place next to my bed. Finally, I realized what I was missing. I ran out of my bedroom, taking my watch and placed it on my wrist, as I ran to the restroom.
Five minutes before departure, in the restroom opening up the drawer next to the sink, I found my make-up kit. First, I put on a pale foundation. Then opened up my eye liner. I hurred to finish as I heared the toast pop up out of the toaster. After all that was finishe,d I ran taking my keys in one hand, the carton of milk in the other, a piece of taste hanging from my mouth, and my backpack on my shoulder as I walked out the door.
Finishing my morning routine felt refreshing. After a while, I met up with one of my friends. She had came from behind me and jumped on me, wrapping her long, sledner arms around my neck. I wasn't exactly surprised since she did this every time.
"Morning Yuu." Her voice was as cheery as ever.
I smiled and replied back to her, "Morning Sakura."
She finally unwrapped herself from me and walked besides me. We were like twins; we looked nothing alike but we were exactly the same. The teachers hatged us together because we drove them insane. Instead of listening during class, we both slept and if something was given as a false statement, we both work up and protested. For that reason, we were neverplaced in the same classes for the last two years in high school but in Junior year, I moved up to all honors and AP courses just like Sakura and ended up in all the same classes.
"You didn't bring your guitar today." She broke the silence with those words, also shattering my train of thought.
I had just realized, "Oh... yeah."
"You knew we have practice today, Yuusuke." Her voice was stern.
"Don't use my first name with me."
"You ssaid we had our first live performance in July. We have to prepare!"
"Yeah, yeah." I remembered that I had another guitar at shcool so it wasn't a problem, "I have another one at school. So chill."
She sighed in relief. Sakur awas like a feirce leader for everything but wasn't the leader for our band. She didn't want to take too much responsibility having so many club activities as it was. So the position was given to me by default. Although, I wasn't one for leadership positions or what not, I took the position with no sign of complaint.
As we reached the school gate, we noticed a figure leaning near the entrance. When we got close, I dodged quickly and the figure was now on the ground behind us, as we walked in. She jumped up and ran to catch up to us, leatching onto Sakura this time. After two years of her attacking me, I got used to it.
"Morning, Rin." Sakura said, still walking toward our lockers inside the school building.
"Mornin' Sakura. Mornin' baka-Yuu." She sneered waiting for me to launch but instead I shrugged it off.
Our lockers were on the second floor, at the end of the hallway. I threw my band at the wall and stood in front of my locker. As I opened the lock, Rin was once again attempting to glomp me. I just dodged or stopped with anything I could use. Finally, she gave up which gave me the freedom of taking my books for my classes. The first two periods just happened to be AP English and AP Statistics. Rin was only in a few of our classes one of which happned to be the dreadful AP English.
As I shoved my book sinto my backpack. I noticed another one of our friends had already arrive.d Amazingly Riku was early and was lying down on the floor with his earphones on and his music turned on at blast. Since Riku had arrived, so had Ryuuhei. All of us made one unofficial band. We were famous online, our site was shared by many. Every day we had new visits. We called oursevles "The Unknown", ironic. Rin is our vocalist, Ryuuhei our drummer, Riku our bass guitarist, while both Sakura and I were the guitarist and lyricist.
Our first live was going to be in a place we all have been to for concerts. We've only ever played live at small gatherings and school talent shows. The one thing that made us unique was that we related to everyday people and still kept out indentities a complete secret. When playing out in public we were in costsumes, make-up, and a mask. Online we talked with all sorts of people, showing them omdified music videos, which Sakura and I worked on after filming.
This year's even tfeatures not only us but also many other famous bands. We were practicing hard to impress not only the other official bands but also our audience.
Thinking this through, my head ached because for the past three weeks, I was dying from a disease called lack of sleep. Leaning against the wall with my music on max, I slid down to the floor. While in a minute of heaven, I was suddenly hit with a paper ball. I took my earphones off and saw Riku's hand still up from throwing it at me.
"What?" My tone slightly irritated.
"Are we practicing today?"
I just nodded in reply and returned to my laziness right before the damned bell ran.
"Aw, man." I just jumped up, taking my backpack and shoving my MP3 into it.
We all went our sepreate ways.
In our first class, Sakura and I fell asleep immediately as we started. I was knocked out cold until everyone got ready for the next class, I followed sleepily. AP statistics, my favorite class was even gone by the sleepiness in my body. Finally, break had started. Letting out a yawn, my friends laughed as we returned to our lockers.
"Why are you so tired? You've been sleeping in all the classes so far." Sakura laughed as I let out another yawn.
"I haven't slept a wink at night for three weeks." Was all I could manage to mumble.
"Why not?" Riku's question lingered in my ears.
"Writting a new song for our live."
All of a sudden I felt a light tap on my shoulder. I turned around to find Ryuuhei with some girls with him. What a flirt.
"What's up?" Ryuuhei smiled as he asked.
I knew what he was asking for. "Practice for pretty much the rest of the day."
At the same time, everyone jumped up yelling, "YES!" except me, "WE GET TO SKIP CLASSES AGAIN!"
"That's not fair." This came from one of the girls with Ryuuhei, "Why do you guys get to skip classes?"
I just stared at them blankly, finally replying, "That's none of your business."
They seemed offended by my answer and they turned around and strutted down the hall.
The five of us were left all alone in the hall.
We rushed up to the music room where the teacher was waiting for us. He had all the equipment set up.
"Thank you, sir." We all said at the same time.
He just smiled. While leaving, he closed the doors behind him.
We threw our bags against the walls. Sakura called the shots.
"Yuu guitar and mic, check."
After I checked them, I let her know with a nod to lazy to do anything else.
"Rin, mic check."
"Hai!" Rin said while jumping up and down.
"Riku, bass."
He strummed his bass to notify her.
"Ryuuhei, drums."
He tapped a tune in reply.
"Alright! Let's do this."
For two hours, we practiced three songs nonstop. It had become our lunch break before we knew it. We left our equipment as we ran out to buy our lunches. Everyone stared at us as we burst out from the music room. I shoved my hands into my pockets, ignoring the silent stares. Walking pass everyone, my friends follwoed after me.
"That new song rocks!" Ryuuhei exclaimed breaking the silence between us.
I smiled and nodded in agreenemnt. "I worked pretty hard on it, with Sakura's help."
As we were walking, some girls got in the way. As I stepped to the side to avoid them another one of their clones blocked my way. Everyone knows not to cross paths with me when: I'm hungry, I was previously pissed off by the same group, and I'm in a hurry. Giving them a death glare, some of them shuttered and stepped a few steps back. I didn't have time for this, so I turned aroundand started walking off another direction to the lunch line.
"Are you scared to face us, Yuusuke-kun?"
"No, I just don't feel like hitting a girl." I was starting to get pissed off. Sakura noticed even if I hit it.
"Fuck off!" Sakura turned to them and blocked the path between those girls and I. "If you know what's good for you."
Thank goodness she stepped in or else I would've ripped them apart.
The girls seemed offended by Sakura's choicec of words. So they turned around and scurried off once again. I let out a sigh of relief, keeping myself under control is hard work. Then I felt an arm wrap around my neck.
"You owe me big time. Buy me lunch?"
"Sakura!" I flicked her forehead and laughed as she jumped back and smacked my back hard.
We all went off to lunch.
