I recently read an article in the Toronto Star care of Reuters about a Death Row inmate who has been blogging about being on Death Row leading up to his imminent execution most likely for this coming Wednesday. He is convicted of killing 3 people. Two when he was 19 and one in his prison cell, in self-defense he says. That is not an easy thing ( Read more... )

There's a great episode of Penn & Teller's Bullshit where they argue against the death penalty, not necessarily because they're opposed to the idea of death being the ultimate punishment, but because there have been numerous cases of people being wrongly convicted of crimes and put on Death Row in error, which is pretty scary. Well first of all I want to say that I respect your opinion, it is definitely a controversial subject with no easy answers. But to be fair the author of the page did not refuse to allow comments from dissenters stating:

"I decided I would only allow comments from those who were sympathetic to Rogelio or those who perhaps were not but were genuinely interested in having a serious conversation about the Death Penalty, or wished to pose a question to Rogelio."But he did decide to delete hateful comments which I can imagine would be anything worse than "burn in hell" and given that the prisoner is scheduled to be put to death in a couple of days I think that is more than fair ( ... )

The "what if a person is wrongly convicted" argument aside, which would be my biggest reason for being against the death penalty ( ... )

I think we're going to have to agree to disagree on this topic. I don't think any justice is involved with execution whether it is done by the state or at the hands of the "victim" who then becomes the murderer and could just as easily be executed by the state ( ... )

Your welcome Ro. It had the same effect over me too after awhile. It's caused me to think a little more about my feelings against capital punishment and if there is more that I ought to be doing.
