[drabble] shadows wheeling closer on chariots of old nightmares

It was Christmas Eve.

The boy most from other worlds would know as 'Lavi' stumbled slightly, then fell to the ground.

"Mana..." A pale hand dug its way into the cold snow, wetness following to freeze upon its surface.

"Little boy~" A green eye followed the voice up, and up. "Would you like to bring Mana Walker back to this world?"

So round, his form filled the sky above Mana's dark cross--the last thing that would show Mana really existed at all--the Earl peered down with a grin and a greed in his eyes.

The tiny pale boy was no older than twelve, but his eye was dull with age beyond it already. Tears fell down his face, a few leaking through the rubbish eyepatch covering his face. His face didn't light up in hope, or sink in despair, like most would when confronted with the option of reviving a dear one.

"Why would I bring him back? He's only just gotten free." Dull words to match his dull eye, maybe a small flash of hate and rage within those depths but nothing more.

"But you could have him back. Would you not give anything for him to return to you?" The Earl continued, ignoring the small warning in that single eye.

Pale hands slammed down against the snow, balled into tiny fists of anger and rage, and sorrow, but also guilt. "Bring him back to this disgusting world!? Where all humans can do is kill each other and ruin everything they touch?" Screeched across the otherwise silent cemetery, perhaps even then, the dead were watching this showdown with held breath. "I'd rather die!"

And that awful grin became worse on the hideous face it called home. "Maybe we can arrange that, boy~."

"Strike me down then. And I'll join Mana in freedom." The boy hoisted himself up slowly, almost painfully from the cold ground.

The Earl gestured and another figure filled in the rest of the sky the Earl had missed. Round with cannons and a face frozen in a silent scream of pain, coupled with sorrow--an Akuma. As a single cannon lowered, that unpaired eye flashed golden for a moment and left the Earl distracted at the pivotal second another man with a mane of matching red hair swooped down to save the day.
