a rare and brief emergence from the muck

so i've been deeply involved in other things not related to he-re/ar, but I should rather like to put together an end of year list and not cop out this year of our lord 2009. after all, it is the last one in which i can say "ought" (ought-4, ought-9, etc). can you refresh on that which has appeared this year, or perhaps point me in the direction ( Read more... )

i've completely lost track of what came out this year. i've been selling off records, listenining to more downloads, not paying attention to much that is new outside of seeing live shows/friends in town (and midwest noise/exp tapes), ensconced in re-issues and old jazz, pre war blues, straight up african funk, finnish psych underground, plenty o' magma, two weeks STRAIGHT of michael jackson, and all things mississippi records and sublime frequencies/honest jons/ethnic music labels. and ultra eczema.

some pleasant discoveries:
bitter funeral beer band
joe mcphee
a whole slew of those james ferraro cdrs
ga'an
dog lady
shackleton, other skull disco stuff/appleblim related
geraldo pino & the heartbeats
some tight polish funk comps

i literally have heard maybe 2 records that came out this year...it's sad but after stopping doing a radio show, it's been hard to keep up with anything.
that and every fucking band sucks sucks sucks. this year was pretty terrible for music. Wavves, Lovvers, all that shit is garbage. all this retro-garage shit is garbage lo fi CRAP.

With that said, I do enjoy the new album by Screaming Females, though I imagine if they weren't good friends of mine I don't know if I'd care about it at all.

When are we doing a top 10 of the decade? Scott, let me post in this thing!

Happy to hear from you. I was just dicking around in the settings for this thing, and I have to admit that I don't know how to change who can post or not. I seem to remember there being a system by which things entered a queue and I could let them out before, but I've become old and stodgy and cant figure my way back to it. Should a post of any sort from almost anyone enter the queue, I'll be glad to let it out. This guarantee of course includes you. The only caveat to this statement is that being that I must pour drinks and run my mouth all weekend, I'm only likely to see things on Monday or Tuesday.

livejournal certainly has gotten more confusing, I agree. What have you been up to? I'm currently taking my first 'year off'. Graduated last year, doing the whole Grad School thing next year. Doing the whole band thing= www.myspace.com/silentwaynb so that's fun. Still in Jersey, as well. Hows about you, dude?
