Oh LORD. This is wonderful. Remus is such a caretaker. I love it. I love the way he bins the broken mug. I love the way he accepts things. These lines are beautiful:

He finds it funny (peculiar, but also amusing -- Sirius always said he was morbid)

and

He welcomes Snape's brusque disdain, because that, at least, he can count on to never change.

Yes. Great job.

Harry needs a backhand across the mouth... jazzypom April 2 2005, 08:03:59 UTC
I can understand his anger, but enough already! Remus needs to come out from behind that placid mask of good humour and english gentitly and shake Harry until his teeth rattle.

Oh, good look at it, I especially liked this; He should be used to wandering forlornly through empty rooms, trailing his fingers over undusted furniture, looking for answers in the way the dust resettles after he's disturbed it, semaphores of some truth he can't understand. Because I've been there, and got the T-shirt and the home video to prove it.

Hmm... I see it as more Remus's passive-aggression at work here - he stays calm because he know it'll make Harry angrier.

Oh, good look at it

Thank you!

Very nice, esp Harry's reaction and Remus's reaction to him (v. much the way I think it would play out). But I think I might be misinterpreting something: you label this gen, but this line makes me think that Remus is ruminating over the loss of his lover, not his friend:

It's strongest in their bedroom, of course, the one Remus can't bear to sleep in any more. He visits it on his way to the room he'd taken as his own when they first moved in, the room he'd never slept in until now, and breathes the last vestiges of Sirius in.

What am I missing?

No, you're not misinterpreting anything - almost everything I write contains some implication of Remus/Sirius, as I ship them quite devotedly. However, as the focus of this story is on Remus's grief and his relationship with Harry, and not his (sexual) relatoinship with Sirius, it's gen.
