_The Things They Carried_ is such a great book. I read it when I was researching the Vietnam War in college, and it was *so* not what I expected from a quasi-war-memoir.

Yeah, I also first read it in college and was blown away by it - both the writing and the story it was telling.

my dad loved m*a*s*h. he thought it was the most realistic war-related show on tv. (he served his year in vietnam as a doctor, so he knew.) it really was a great show.

I believe it. I heard the same from a teacher I had who also served in Vietnam (he said the same thing about Catch 22).

I suggest watching it now. You'll find it entertaining and sadly relevant.
