hey, long time lurker, not really the kind that comments.
but this post made me notice something, as much as I remember wanting to be Batman (not batgirl) and Spider woman; and not really understanding Star Wars, I remember Leia in her gold bikini killing the disgusting giant verm, only thing that scared me as a kid,and shooting guns and being a badass. and I remembered her when I was learning to shot guns and when I had to be a badass by force.
maybe you're right, Eowyn was everything for me since I read the books until I saw the movies and more but Leia was before her helping me understand ladies don't really have to scream and pull their hair and wait for a man to save them.
in a way I'm what I am because of Leia too.

Ps- sorry my ONE comment became a whole essay.

Oh, Eowyn is also one of my all time favorite! I read LotR for the first time at age 9, though, so she was just a little bit later than Leia. But yes, Leia helped a lot of girls understand that we didn't have to be victims, that we could rescue ourselves when necessary, and defeat the villain through sheer strength of will.

Wonderful post. (And I still want to see her with a lightsaber!)
