That is what I thought and it is what makes the most sense, but numerous people didn't see it that way - they think the PTB didn't want him to be a dog-killer because unless you're Atticus Finch (or the dad in Old Yeller, I guess) shooting down a rabid dog, you don't come back from that - it'd mean he's an irredeemable bad guy. Which I personally would be okay with, but... *hands*

I'm with you. Yes, he's a bad guy; they've taken pains to show us that. Doesn't make him less interesting a character, doesn't make him a less complex character, doesn't mean he doesn't have good points that made us like him all this time. That's why it's so fascinating!

(He's still my viewpoint character. That's why this is so painful, in an I-love-good-fiction way!)

It's one where Steve and Bucky both lose their memories and assume they're dating, and end up having sex for the first time, and then get their memories back; do you know the fic I'm talking about?
