you just can't do things your body wasn't meant to

Work internet is intermittent, so I've been doing actual work-related work in between trying to get pages to load. My life, so hard.

Since I was off Monday (and on furlough tomorrow), I guess I didn't actually absorb that yesterday was Wednesday, so you get the Wednesday reading meme on Thursday:

What I've just finished

The Hundred-Year-Old Man ( Read more... )

memes: what i'm reading wednesday, books, books: percy jackson, movies

I liked Red Pyramid a lot too. I got the 2nd and 3rd books from the last scholastic sale but I haven't started them yet.

Have you ever read a Curse as Dark as Gold? I finished that last week and really enjoyed it, it was like redone fairy tale thing about a pair of sisters who run their town mill when their father dies.

Now I'm trying Judgement of Paris for the second time, but I think it might be a lost cause.

Ooh, I haven't but I've just added it to my to-read list. Bunce's fantasy series was okay - well, the first two books - you might enjoy them. The first one is called "Starcrossed."

If you like fairy tale retellings, I also just added "Cinder" by Marissa Meyer to my to-read list based on the review from someone on my flist. It's Cinderella with cyborgs, apparently.

Which "Judgement of Paris" are you reading? He's kind of a dick no matter what though, really.

lol, I'll keep an eye out for that one because cyborgs. Yeah, Gold has an add for Starcrossed in the back because it was published first, apparently. If i see those at the scholastic place I might pick them up too.

It's the Gore Vidal one. Not exactly light summer reading pffft.

THank you!

Oh, I recommend the HP books - they are a lot of fun and really emotionally involving.

I'm enjoying The Cuckoo's Calling a lot. I wouldn't have made the connection to her if it hadn't been made public, though it does have her eye for interesting details. I think I had just put it on hold at the library because it was fairly well reviewed? And then it became available like the day the story broke.

Just got in from seeing The Heat. I liked it fine - I agree with your good points (no romantic competition, etc.) but my criticism would be that a lot of the jokes (Melissa McCarthy's in particular) seemed to go on way too long!! Like they just said "riff on that" and she did, but they never did another take? (Like the 'looking for the boss's balls' joke - that went on For Ever! First time, funny. Finding the TicTacs, funny. The on-and-on "they're really small", not so much.)

Still nice to see two ladies BEING the movie. Refreshing.

I guess I'm just used to jokes going on way too long in movies now? Sometimes they come back around again to hilarious because of that awkwardness even. But not always. But I'm glad you enjoyed it.
