I read the second book, The Shadowed Sun, which I liked even more than the first book, mostly I think because I really connected with the main protagonist, Hanani, in a way I felt was lacking with Ehiru in the first book.
Yes! I loved her a lot.

Also, jsyk, there is rape and attempted rape and child abuse in this book and while I wouldn't say it's graphic, it's also not glossed over.
Yeah, it made me uncomfortable, but I liked the way Jemisin handled it. She wasn't doing it for shock value or to be gritty, and she made its purpose clear without trivializing it.

And I read The Narcomancer, the short story by Jemisin that's also set in the same world, but sometime in the past.
I still need to read that.

I also read the first 11 issues of Saga by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples, and I really enjoyed it.
SAGA IS THE BEST IF IT DOESN'T WIN THE HUGO I WILL CUT SOMEONE.

ROAD TRIPPING WITH DEL AND DREAM. BARNABAS. DESTRUCTION.
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

*nod nod*

That's how I felt about it, too.

I am enjoying it a lot! I love Vaughan's dialogue and how he grounds even the most absurd situations in real feelings. And the art is fantastic.
