We closed early yesterday because of the nor'easter; the announcement said 3:30 but of course I was here waiting for people to get their shit together and send me documents for a mailing that was supposed to go out yesterday. At 4:15, boss2 came over and said go home, it could go out in the morning, so I did ( Read more... )

That was pretty much my reaction as well, though I forgot to write about Mordred and how incredibly underwhelming he was when I typed up my notes. All that hype, and all Roland has to do is shoot him! I hated the insertion of Stephen King into the story, but you described what made it annoying much better than I did.

I wonder if I'd have cared more about Patrick if I'd read "Insomnia," which I think is where he's from. But I haven't, so I had a hard time feeling anything for him, especially since he was introduced so late.

*nod nod*

I was like, well, this is a cool idea, but it's way too late to introduce it now.

Right? Seriously a waste of a lot of words and pages. I mean, I enjoyed the books for the most part, but talk about a sudden drop in quality on the last two books.

I really liked "On Writing," and I thought "The Green Mile" was pretty good but that's all I've really read of his. Oh, wait, no, I did read "The Regulators" and "Desperation," which I guess tied into "The Dark Tower," but they basically made no impression. I think he's a decent storyteller, but aside from these I haven't really read enough to judge.

I haven't read the 8th one. I might, because it's set in the middle and hopefully doesn't feature any of the things that annoyed me.
