with the light of a thousand suns we will burn

So despite potato-face Clark, I really liked A Superman for All Seasons. The story was simple but in the best way - it was quintessentially Superman in a way that really worked for me. Superman is not my favorite, but I do have a lot of feelings about him and only think he's boring in the hands of writers who don't understand why he's so ( Read more... )

OH BTW. Are you interested/uninterested/thrilled/enraged/other about the new Superman movie? I only care about Henry Cavill in tights personally.

Right now I'm mostly meh about it. I didn't like the look of the new costume and I don't think Superman needs to be ~dark and gritty~ (whatever that means), but I'll wait and see.

There is a World's FInest title in the reboot but it is about Earth 2 Helena Wayne and Power Girl. I haven't read it because I'm still sad about it not being Helena B and I've heard mixed reviews.

I haven't come across Superman Up Up and Away. What is it about?

Dammit, why no Helena Bertinelli? I DO NOT UNDERSTAND YOUR LIFE CHOICE, DC!

Oh, Up Up and Away is about Clark's time without powers after...some crisis or other, and how much he's enjoying life as a Pulitzer Prize winning reporter etc. I really liked it. Their marriage is awesome and Lois is AMAZING in it, and Clark is such a sweetie.

Seconded. I care nothing whatsoever about Helena Wayne. I'm really curious to see if DC's plans to get rid of their current readers for new ones has a long term effect, or if it will be pretty much exactly the same only with younger people, or if they will continue slouching towards Bethleham.

I *could* care about Helena Wayne, especially if she's really Bruce's daughter with Selina, but not at the expense of Helena Bertinelli.

I think they're going to retain their core audience of 35-40yo white men until Didio et al. are gone and there's someone younger and more interested in changing things at the top.

No, but seriously. That coupled alongside the fact that a great writer will make me care about characters like Blue Beetle and The Question and Animal Man and the Sandman and countless others who I would never ever have seen myself invested in just goes to show how much the comic book industry should be focusing on telling great stories instead of great, big universe-wide events.

Also, thnx for the songs. I picked up the Empire and the Jenny Lewis. I've already started building my fall mixtape, and apparently it's all about the haunting vocals and strummed strings.

Enjoy the songs!

And yes - good stories will make you care about the characters; writing Clark as self-righteous and always making the right choice without any agonizing ever is just bad writing and shows a poor understanding of the character. If the big two were less concerned with ridiculous events and more concerned with writing great stories about characters people already love, they'd be in a lot better shape.

I like For All Seasons more than All Star. All Star has some really great moments - most of them with Lois - but on the whole, it's just so silly that I can't really accept it. The parts are more than the whole.

I must have missed the Lois post last night - where is it?

Oh the post wasn't about Lois, it was about everyone keeping things from Lydia on Teen Wolf and how annoying I find it.

I think about Steve&Bucky every time I hear 'No Light, No Light' anymore.
