Most of the email I get these days is from the Long Island Railroad, letting me know that there is trouble on the Ronkonkoma branch. Most of the time, I'm just grateful I only take it once a month and don't have to deal with all the problems on a regular basis. After posting a story, though, there's nothing sadder than seeing you have a new email

Yeah, you can get 'em for various subway lines as well. You can sign up at mta.info.

Also for the subway, the kickmap app is pretty good.
