and let me know that you're mine

So last night, given that I had a headache and was unfit for doing anything thinky, I watched a couple of movies.

I thought The Nanny Diaries was mostly enjoyable for what it was - the fact that I live on the UES (though technically, I live in Yorkville, where the regular, non-rich people live) made it more amusing - but mostly it gave me lots of ( Read more... )

Apropos of nada, when I read your titles, in my brain I hear them as a snippet of them in whichever song they're from.

I don't get the ScarJo hate, either. I haven't seen everything she's done of course but the things I have seen, she's been pretty damn good. I can't say the same for half the women who everyone claims to love but who are terrible actresses, either, so.

The only thing I really liked about the F4 movies was Chris. I don't know if it was JUST bad writing or if I legitimately have no interest in the type of plots they get caught up in, though. Because I literally could not care about any of the Doom/Surfer stuff.

I get having an irrational dislike for an actor - I can't watch Jason Bateman or Simon Baker without feeling an irrational urge to punch them in the face - but sometimes I just don't get why it lands on a particular actress for so many people.

Both? I mean, I enjoy Johnny Storm when he shows up to hang out with Spider-man in the comics but as a whole I don't care about the F4, and nothing in the movies changed that.

I've always had mixed feelings about Johansson (although this is a very good year. I liked her Kelly in We Bought a Zoo and obviously NATASHA, although she didn't do much for me in IM2). Trying to analyse it, I think a lot of it has to do with male critical attention which I thought had more to do with lust than her acting, only they pretended it didn't. It didn't help that this was epitomised/crystalised in Lost in Translation and that she worked with Woody Allen more than once. I'm now wondering if this prejudice began with her character's trajectory waay back in Ghost World. In the middle of that, as another commentator reminded me, she was luminous in A Girl With A Pearl Earring - they're right, gorgeous movie.

I always felt that casting Alba as Sue Reed was one of the many wrong decisions that they made with that take on Fantastic Four. It's such a dorky movie that I can't get really mad about it, mind. And so the reboot is on...

Yeah, but how other people respond to her looks is not her fault.

Yeah, I'm not sure a better actress could have saved it? But those movies are just bad. And it's sad to see when obviously they CAN do a good job with superhero movies. *hands*

And the bit where she's dressed up as Betsy Ross and he's like, "That's... very patriotic" was hilarious for so many other reasons than the writers intended.

I watched that last weekend for the first time and I thought "Man, I hope that Scarlett LAUGHED HER ASS OFF at Chris the first time she saw him in his spangly outfit."

Hee! I didn't think of that, but I agree. I hope she did!
