The problem with taking something that is basically fantasy/id-fic and turning it into something that will actually work as a story for other people to read isn't just leaching it of a lot of its fantasy/id-sparking power by nailing down all the details, but also having to put it in some kind of narrative frame where it makes sense in ways that are

I feel like the line between pure fantasy/id fic and stuff that other people can read is the spots that all of fandom runs on. And it is such a hard line to catch!

It really is, and I guess it's in different places for different people, which makes it even more difficult. Because you don't want to take all of the button-pushing out, but it also has to make narrative and character sense. So difficult!

I am still *really* excited about the ideas behind this season of Fringe (they are so brave and imaginative); only the execution of these ideas has been iffy. Last night felt right- felt like the intensity I've come to enjoy from Fringe when it's dead-on.

It's not the cast or the characters, it's just the direction and plot, writing that's been up and down. It's still one of the most compelling things on network television and I am still rooting for it.

I think it's been good this season, though yes, the execution on occasion has fallen short.

I was mostly talking about the pro criticism I've seen that because this is a different universe, the critics are unable to really invest in this versino of the characters, which I haven't found to be so. I've been less than pleased with some of the choices they've made, and I keep hoping we'll get more Olivia, Astrid, and Nina, and more about their relationships with each other in this world where they never knew Peter.

I'm less excited with the return to everything revolving around Peter's Special Destiny, so I hope they stop harping on it soon.

And yeah, I love all Olivias at this point, and want to know about her relationship with Walter and Astrid and Lincoln and Nina. I'm not really feeling any kind of alienation from them. It's trying to shove Peter back in that isn't quite working for me.
