dunno where you live, but here in the Pacific Northwest we have an embarresment of coffee shops. Competition is good! Starbucks is ridiculously overpriced, even here, but I buy my daily 16 oz raspberry mocha for $3.70. Might there be a small mom-and-pop shop that would love your business? (caveat: I don't smoke and only rarely drink so my acrylic nails and my daily foo-foo coffee are my only real indulgences)

I envy your paying off a card! Himself just called and we have to pour $2K in the Daughter's car - which eats up 2 years and more of paying down that particular Visa card. :(

There are other coffee shops, chain and independent, but they're all pretty much in line price-wise, and also not on my way into the office, except for Dunkin Donuts, where I do sometimes stop.

I'm excited about paying it off! It will free up some money each month for other things!

I'm a firm believer that 99% of being a good writer is writing what amuses you, so keep on with your awkward sex scene story!

I read an article yesterday about how all coffee companies believed that the price of coffee would be massively raised this year so Starbucks cut a deal with their suppliers at a certain rate for the entire year. Two weeks later the prices dropped a ton. Which means that Starbucks is stuck with a crappy deal on coffee prices for the whole year and we customers are having to suffer the consequences. So look forward to the next year being higher priced at Starbucks that any other coffee place! Thankfully, we have a few to choose from around here. Unfortunately, all the ones with good product are so freaking slow (I do not have 15 minutes to wait for you to heat the milk for my chai!) that it's almost worth paying the extra $ for Starbucks speed. Almost.

Ah, interesting. I was kind of surprised at that much of a price jump, to be honest, but that would explain it. And it'll never come back down, regardless of what coffee prices do in the future.

it's almost worth paying the extra $ for Starbucks speed. Almost.

Yeah, they're pretty quick, compared to the independent shop up the block, and they have larger sizes, which is also key, given my desire for as much coffee as possible at all times.

I've gotten myself out of a Starbucks habit through systematic use of a wee French press (3 "cups," which is to say about two mugs if you put in a ton of milk like I do) and the microwave to heat my milk. Will be interesting to see if I can keep this up once it gets warm and I absolutely demand that my coffee be cold, though; I think it's doable, just requires taking the couple of minutes in the evening and sticking the whole thing into the fridge.

I was totally doing that! I was doing really well with my French press iced coffee! And then I fell off the wagon. And then I was doing all right with making it at work with the not very good K cup coffee and some milk and ice! But then I fell off the wagon again. I am going to have to get back on track. Starting Monday. Yes.
