Okay, so on Monday, I read The Lost Hero and yesterday, I tore through The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan - they're the first two books in the second Percy Jackson series, and now I'm really annoyed with myself because I have to wait until fall 2012 for the next book (which looks like it will center on Annabeth ( Read more... )

I'm on the last book of the first series! I hear really good things about the second series, but, damn, so many books!

If you don't know for sure, well, I would recommend you check out The Lightning Thief at least, and see if you enjoy it. It's not groundbreaking, but it is fun.
And I would say that if you think it's mediocre and not astonishing, try the second book as well, because that's where the series really starts building its mythology and comes into its own.

Good point. I read them all in a rush, so I can't really differentiate, but that makes sense.

I found these books back when I worked in a third grade classroom. The kids were DEVOURING them and getting so excited about Greek mythology- it was really awesome to watch kids get hooked into something that I love so much.

Yeah, my youngest niece was into them, so I passed down my copies of the first series. (Which I now kind of want to reread. Sigh.) But I can imagine kids loving them. I was totally in mythology at that age.
