this could only happen to me

I am getting that itchy, unsatisfied feeling that generally leads to writing, which is good, since I haven't done any since my panicked remix on May 1. I haven't even had the files open.

I watched the first episode of the second season of Treme this morning. Oh my god, why is Sonny still around? And why did they add Jon Seda? I want to give him ( Read more... )

Honestly, I don't think Falsone would be anywhere near as awful if it weren't for Jon Seda's hideous smirkiness.

*nod*

The combination of Falsone's purported perfection and Seda's smirkiness was probably lethal to the character.

And why did they add Jon Seda?

I KNOOOOOOOW. It's not just the Falsone hatred -- I think he fucking sucks, period.

Ugh.

I have never seen him in anything else. He's the reason I keep putting off watching "The Pacific."

Also, there's nothing about TGW that anchors it to Chicago the way The Wire had to be set in Baltimore.

I have to disagree with that. The Wire (like Homicide before it, and like Treme and Detroit 187 with their respective cities) had an almost evangelical mission of revealing Baltimore and telling its story, which I don't think TGW does. But as a native Chicagoan, I see all kinds of subtle visual and dialogue references to Chicago, in-jokes about the politics, and so on. In other words, The Wire intended to tell people who don't know Baltimore about the city, while TGW keeps Chicago, like its human characters, mysterious and self-contradictory. It gets details wrong sometimes - like, there's pretty much no such thing as an outdoor coffee cart in Chicago - but for the most part, it feels right to me.

Interesting. I mean, I get that there are in-jokes about the politics, but I guess the other stuff has passed me by, because I don't really feel like there's an intrinsic connection between the story and the city. Maybe that's partly because I know it's filmed in New York?

In other tv news, I finished my latest A:TLA rewatch yesterday and now I immediately want to start again, or at least start again with "The Blind Bandit." Maybe I'll do that now.

To give us two people to despise? Because that's all I've got for both of them right now.

Yeah, that's pretty much my only guess. I mean, once again, I was like, Annie, you are lovely and talented and your choice in men is so bad that Davis is a step up. That is really, really sad.
