and ask forgiveness for future mistakes

I said last night I wasn't going to share my thoughts on this particular go-round of yuletide wank, because taglines are way more fun, but there are a couple of things that kind of rub me the wrong way ( Read more... )

See, thought in the shower was that the alternate universe's people were the first people and that they a) realized they destroyed their world with their machine so they chopped it up and hid it through out the world before finding a way to open a doorway to their universe, effectively saving their species and destroying our world. It would explain why they are so technologically more advanced then us and how walternate knew about the pieces in the first place.

And that made a hell of a lot more sense in the shower. ♥

Bwah! The shower always produces creative thinking! It could be the Observers' machine though. ALIENS! YAY!

Now I am all for it being alien tech, but doesn't the machine belonging to the observers go against what they stand for? They just watch, they're not supposed to get involved. (even though we have seen them get involved, at least twice so far)

And speaking of those sneaky devils, they're laying quite low so far this season, yes?

Well, maybe they were the first people and they used it and it went badly, so now they just watch! I don't even know! And because time isn't linear for them, they could know how to make the coordinates work out!

Mostly, though, I think it was William Bell who stole the parts from Walternate and had them buried and created the cipher for our Walter. Or something.

And speaking of those sneaky devils, they're laying quite low so far this season, yes?

Apparently there is still at least one sighting an episode, but *I* never notice them until they're pointed out.

I hope Walternate or the Observers (who are probably First People) hid them recently. My husband and I were sitting there screaming "plate tectonics, ahhhh" the whole time Faux!livia et al were just wandering off to dig at hundreds of million year old coordinates.

We really need to just turn a blind eye to Fringe skiense, it is sad making. Memory B cells nearly killed me...

Yeah, I would think - along with William Bell - that Walternate or the Observers are the best candidates. I don't mind most Fringe SKIENCE, but this one was just such a howler that even my elastic suspension of disbelief twanged.

On modding... Yes. Delegating does require upfront work and documentation. But it's the only way to realistically grow. Been there, done that, never wear the tee shirt. :P

Exactly. I mean, they could cap participation - I've thought about it for Remix, but Remix shrank and has held pretty steady at 230-250 ppl the last couple of years. But I think getting more people to help specifically for yuletide - not just AO3 coders/wranglers etc. - would be a wise way to go. Based on my experience, anyway.

Oh, the Observers! I like this theory very much! I was watching and thinking, "But plate tectonics? But why was the First People's latitude & longitude system also based on divisions of 60?" I do hope Walter picks up on that at some point.

Yeah, Observers or William Bell. That's where my money is.

So much word to all of the yuletide stuff. The tone is half the problem.

So much of this could have been avoided by a simple "We understand you have concerns. While the process for this year is already in place, here's a post you can comment to in order to air them and we'll take them under consideration for next year."
