I hate the potentials becoming powered! I feel like he threw a core element of the Buffy idea in the trash with that move.

Really? I like that it would allow Buffy to be free of ~destiny~. I mean, I get the appeal of "One girl in all the world," but I also like the idea that every girl is a slayer.

Yes, really! I, with my Beowulfian tendencies. LURVE an epic hero. The One! The Chosen One! Who stands against unimaginable hordes of evol! Maybe with a few friends, like Buffy or HP, but essentially alone.

I enjoyed some of B's angst and struggle regarding her density, I mean destiny, but think the potentials move diluted the power of the core story.

I can see that, but if that's the case, then I think Buffy has to die at the end of the story. If it's always "one girl in all the world," then she has to pass that mantle on completely. This way, it's all the girls. I also think, given what they did with the Slayer origin story, that it was a nice way to take back control of the power forced on them - that Buffy was going to be a Slayer by her own rules, and she was going to bring everyone else along for the ride. I get all teary in a good way at that scene when the girls get empowered during "Chosen."

::nods::

I like that too. And I have to admit my watching of S6 and S7 was spotty. You make me want to see "Chosen" again.

I'm not sure I agree B has to die. She can live out her Chosen One life, slaying monsters until she faces a dragon in old age and they kill each other.

Do you think Harry should've stayed dead?

Well, I don't think I've seen most of s5-7 since they aired, so...

I don't think Harry should have stayed dead since he was The Boy Who Lived, but also, he was a one-off chosen one facing one specific opponent, unlike Buffy, who faces ALL the evil and has a hereditary office, as it were.
