Le sigh. It's the APOCALYPSE. And not the Buffy kind. The real one! This is a good stopping point. I want it to end because I like it, not because I don't want more of it.
Sadly, what I would want from season 6 (Sam and Dean repairing their relationship! Driving around! Hunting people! Saving things! Wait, wait, reverse that! No more fucking angels!) and what is feasible for a network television show (even on a network that is barely hanging on) are not the same thing.
Yeah, I mean, I could see how a post-apocalyptic season that's just like season one but not in subtle (and not-so-subtle, let's be honest) could be kind of awesome in a "Look how much has changed" kind of way (and in that vision, Castiel, even though I do like him, would not fit in), but...I guess we'll see what we get. I do want more, and the show has improved over the course of its run, so I hope that season six continues that trend.
Yeah, that's what I'd like. Kripke's made noises about making the show more intimate and family-oriented again for season 6, so I'd like that, but if it's just dragging the apocalypse out, I don't think I can take it. I really don't want Castiel hanging around. He is a potential deal breaker for me.
Well, since I think we're going to see god at some point, I can see them both dying and then god giving them a second (third? 145th?) chance. A literal deus ex machina.
I would like to say that I'm done? I've walked away from shows before, but... man, I'm torn. Part of the problem is I still want to write about Sam and Dean, and for me, that requires being up on canon. So I don't know. But if the apocalypse gets dragged out, it's a lot less likely I'll stick around.
i can't imagine they think they can prolong the apocalypse another season, and while i don't have any desire to watch a sixth season full of angst and woe and irreparably broken winchesters and their irreparably broken relationship - two or three seasons is MORE THAN ENOUGH, THANK YOU - i'm kinda curious what the ptb have planned, and what they think will actually fly. (and hopefully "what will fly" is not "twenty-two more episodes with angels". i like castiel but i think he's worn out his welcome.)
i'm with you, in that i'm pretty sure what we want (saving people! hunting things! the boys having some kind of positive emotional connection with each other and other people! no more angels riding shotgun!) is not what the network is going to want. altho i guess it's possible we could get, like, s1 redux. altho i also think that might be too much to hope for.
Given that they don't seem to have enough apocalypse for one season, yet they've already dragged it out for 1.5, I'm hoping Sera Gamble is telling the truth when she says they're wrapping it up this season (source).
I know Kripke has talked about doing a more stripped down, season-one-like version of the show, and I would like that, but not if Castiel is still hanging around. I like the idea of showing Sam and Dean trying to fix themselves and their relationship and seeing how different they are now from how they were in season one.
Also, I'm a little sad this means that even if he was in the running, Jensen can't be Captain America now.

but he'll always be captain america in our hearts....
...you can pretend i didn't say that. >.<
i'd like to think the ptb understand that dragging out the apocalypse past s5 is totally jumping the shark, and with that understanding they're planning something different for s6. i hope that's not giving them too much credit.
and man, i hope if we do get a stripped-down, back-to-basics, angel-less s6, the boys DO fix their relationship and CAN be brothers again. because otherwise there's no point in watching.
Sigh. I don't know how I feel. On one hand, my Thursday nights will be very lonely without Sam & Dean. However, I want the show to go out on a good note with good ratings. The SPN of S4 and S5 has changed. It's not the show we started watching. The dynamic between the boys has changed (and not for the positive IMHO).
If Kripke can get them back to being brothers and give Sam & Dean a happy ending (as happy as you can be on SPN), I will watch. I want them less brooding, less empty, less "dead" inside. If the boys continue to self-destruct, self-sacrifice, and there continues to be angels, well... I wish I could say I will walk away but I probably won't. I just won't like it.
I wonder how the boys really feel about this? I mean, their whole career is wrapped up in SPN while they're filming. It's a draining gig to be basically a two man show.

No Winchesters died in last year's finale, though.
