Yeah, sometimes it's so blatant it's like a fist to the face. I wish someone WOULD ask him, but I'm sure he'd just give that whole "best actor for the job" "we kill as many white men as blacks and women" bullshit, without ever realizing why those are shitty answers.

Don't forget Jo was also in there - the character they wrote like a dimwitted little girl because Kripke & Co. are almost incapable of writing human women as anything other than sex objects.

As for Castiel . . . can I cyber hug you? I honestly thought I was the only one in the entire fandom who thought Castiel was a useless moron. Seriously. It really bothers me because I KNOW that if some ugly ass old man had been cast as Castiel, the character would not be a regular right now.

All things considered, I'd give Jo one free pass at Sam. But yeah, they wrote her out just when she'd gotten interesting, because she didn't fit into the love interest box.

Heh. Hug away. We are a very small minority, but we do exist. And yeah, if Castiel hadn't been cast young and pretty, fandom would hate him.

Quite frankly had Castiel been young, pretty, and female the fandom would hate her too. I am part of the Castiel is uninteresting contingent.

*nod*

I get that it's a promo and could be misleading, but still, my trust in the show on racial issues is pretty much non-existent.

I wish. If more of the fandom cared about this stuff, I think Kripke'd take notice.

I may be completely wrong, because the video stutters a bit on my computer, but it looks like he's setting a circle around the wheelchair on fire, which may be something different from setting someone on fire - there may be something test-ing about it, or something protective. The episode may be fail, but from what I see in the promo it could go either way.

I am not inclined to give them any trust on issues of race or gender at this point. It's a promo, so it could be misleading, but seeing that did not make me think anything but fail was going to come of it.

I had the same idea. It seemed like Castiel was showing Dean that the man was protected. (from fire? :D Interesting....)

Dean even looks kind of bug-eyed and surprised. Then they show him [the man in the wheelchair] standing up and speaking. I have so many theories about that one scene it's not even funny.
