Also a verrry nice cold treat, but definitely not suited for breakfast and you do have to like a bit of alcohol is this:

1 scoop of vanilla ice cream in a glass (wine glass tends to work best)
on top of that 1 shot of vodka
sprinkle with some ground coffee
Top liberally with whipped cream.

And now you've put me in a mood to bake. Maybe I should make eclairs this weekend.

That does sound intriguing. I don't mind a little alcohol. *g*

And you should TOTALLY make eclairs this weekend. I approve of this plan!

It's totally best if you let it melt a little (though the vodka will do that already).

And I think I shall!

I will keep that in mind.

Dean approves, also!

the hardest part was transferring the pyrex dish full of coffee into the freezer without spilling any, so I can totally recommend it even if you are not a confident cook. You just have to whisk the coffee every 15-20 minutes once it's started to freeze. It's totally worth the effort.

And wow, thanks for that link. *adds to Google Reader*

I have not read Middlesex, either, but like you, with this new information it might shoot to the top of my list. :)

Now, if the babies were sekrit ones, then I'd go out to Borders right now. *has little, but some, shame*

Well, the babies aren't sekrit in the sense that she gets pregnant and he doesn't find out until later (which is generally what i mean by sekrit baby stories, incestuous or not); it's more that the incest part is sort of (an open) secret from the rest of the family for many years.

One of my Nigella Lawson books has a photo of breakfast brioches filled with chocolate gelato and strawberry sauce, leading to cognitive dissonance about things that look like hamburgers but SO aren't.

Heh. I can imagine. But that also sounds really tasty.

Regarding the coffee granita peachless July 15 2009, 00:33:04 UTC
Hi! So, I made the coffee granita a few days after you posted the article, and it was delicious. Thank you so much. Then, I made it again today, only this time I put some creme de cacao liqueur into the whipped cream. It was so very, very good. I just wanted to let you know in case you make it again, to try it with a little something something added in while the cream is being whipped.

I haven't used the brioche yet either, I've been perfectly happy how it is without.

That does sound fantastic. I made it again today, and used a shallower pan and it was even better. *G*
