I am staring down a day full of family obligations, so I am kind of cranky, which I guess makes it time for another round of "I won't read your fic if..."

cut because I put on the ranty pants )

My next story shall begin thusly: "It was a Tuesday when Ianto discovered that Jack's dick was, in fact, magical."

But will it be in 6pt type?

6 pt, but I'll use italics a lot. And grey font on a black background.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DEVALUE PAST RELATIONSHIPS TO MAKE THE CURRENT ONE SPECIAL.

You also do not have to devalue women IN OUR ENTIRETY to make the point that your boy likes the gay sex.

THIS.

And is it bad that I think I know exactly which fandom/pairing you're referring to?

Sadly, it's kind of rampant in EVERY fandom, so...

"It was a Tuesday when [insert name] discovered that [insert name]'s dick was, in fact, magical."

Sorry, I'll stop spamming your journal. You just hit exactly the right rant for the day. Week. Year.

Yeah, they're pretty timeless complaints.

MOUNTAINS of word, yes. The second especially is so annoying on about every level.

I know! I click out of the story and invariably want to punch the author in the face.

I know! And it's not like I wasn't guilty of it when I first started writing, either, but I learned there are ways around it, ways to get your point across without bashing other characters.

And grey font on a black background.

Word!

Actually anything on a black background is hard to read - I've got crap eyesight too.

I know it was popular in the late 90s/early 00s to have white or grey on a black background, but I'd hoped it had disappeared. Sadly, some people still use it, and while on LJ I can avoid it with style=mine, sometimes if they hard code stuff in, there's nothing I can do, except close the tab and move on.
