Concerning the girl!Sam story: what's wrong with retreads? It was good enough for Shakespeare. Reworking the classics is never wrong.

Yeah, but what I wanted to do with that is too close to something someone else did, better. So until I can come up with a different angle... sigh...

Waah, why do some of the most enticing genderswaps get abandoned? I'm still mourning janissa11's unfinished girl!Dean story, Dancing Backward. Let's hope inspiration strikes with that new angle you're looking for.

Oh, man, I love that Mal/River snippet. That she sees it as well-cared-for, like everything he owns. And that's disturbingly hot, in its way. (Do you know the Jane Kenyon poem The Shirt?)

River doesn't mind. She sorts through the clothes methodically, separating whites from colors, and tries to calm the nervous flutter in her belly when she runs her hands over one of the captain's shirts. No one's around to see, so she brings it to her face, inhaling the scent of sweat and leather and gun smoke. The material is worn soft, washed and mended and well-cared-for, like everything he owns. It's red like blood against her fingers, and warm from being packed in with the rest of the laundry, but she imagines the warmth is from his skin, wonders what it would be like to touch him, to rub against him the way this shirt does. Quickly, while nobody's around, she tucks the shirt into her sweater and takes it back to her room ( ... )

And I too think there would be nothing wrong with re-treading already-done material with the girl!Sam story! I found what you have of it to be quite fun. Of course, if you can't make it work, you can't make it work.

I keep thinking about it, but I haven't figured out how to do it the way I want to.
