You guys, here is a thing I do not understand. Let's say you wrote a story a few years ago - before you were on LJ, probably. And you were posting it as a WIP, either to some mailing list or to FF.net. And you had no real conception that 600 words is not really long enough to be considered a "chapter," but whatever. You wrote a story that ended up ( Read more... )

it's a sickness, tv: dark angel

Okay, but that is an actual name non-fictional people actually have. I am talking made up names that have way too many unnecessary vowels.

Dark Angel fandom is...special. Though there are plenty of made up names in HP.

It is VERY SAD the depths to which I will sink in my M/A reading. It's like I forget the back button exists or something, and just keep reading. Even the WTF grovelfic stuff.

I am RIGHT THERE WITH YOU. Even unto the godawful grovelfic. Luckily, I am only interested in M/A fic, so I can let everything else pass by.

You know I could buy that Alec may think Max hates him. Mostly because I'm not so sure the show did a great job in moving Max on from seeing Ben everytime she sees him. Mostly because I'm not so sure the show did a great job in moving Max on from seeing Ben everytime she sees him. To me it always seemed like every mistake Alec made (big or small) was almost like an excuse for Max to let out the emotional impact of Ben on him.

But they explicitly address this in "Hello, Goodbye," when Alec says the thing about how it must be hard to have him around 'cause he looks like Ben, and she agrees. So yeah, that's only a starting point, but I think he knows she doesn't hate him.

As I said, I can buy him believing she wouldn't want to date him or fall in love with him, and I certainly think he has a good bit of self-loathing going on, which makes it hard to believe anyone else could love him, but I just don't see him sticking around if he thinks she hates him, and he does stick around and does go along with her plans ( ... )

Ture. Also I think there is a difference between irrationally thinking she hates me and knowing that she doesn't hate him but having that niggling fear that she may/or could if he isn't good enough? But straight out she hates me makes no sense.

Oh, sure, the can he ever be good enough, he's dangerous, he gets the people he loves killed, etc. Yeah, that I believe, and she's got the same thing going on. But there's a lot of "but Max hates me!" and some stories where Max acts like she actually *does* hate him, and it's just... not how I see the characters.

I agree with you about Max. The more I watch the show, the more I like her actually. She's very immature, but considering the way she was raised?! Holy crap - it's amazing to me how she bonded with her "family" and acts as the mom/big sister for any transgenic she comes across. Her sense of responsibility for them all is so moving to me.

Anyway, I think that Max has a hard time hating anyone really. That's why she acts so tough on the outside :)

Yeah, exactly. She's very young, and it's amazing she's not more fucked up than she is, but her life has been very much one where trusting other people only got them killed or put her in danger, so I understand why she is the way she is, and she does have that soft center underneath the tough exterior, and that dedication to caring for people she considers family.
