I knew it was selkies--it had to be. Have you seen The Secret of Roan Inish? Wonderful selkie movie.

It's so lovely to have a SPN fic where no one gets blasted to oblivion. Thank you. :)

Thanks so much!

And no, I haven't seen The Secret of Roan Inish, but it's on my list. *g*

This is, no hyperbole, one of the best SPN fics that I've ever read. The crosscutting of past and present, plot and character issues, with the little hints of the fight with the demon, were perfect.

What a marvelous, beautifully introspective story. It touches me that they never say "selkies" to each other, and yet when Dean says it to Caitlin it's as if he and Sam have already had a discussion about this. All the things Sam wishes for, and cannot see at times what he already has, the richness of them. Ah, the salad days. ::smile::

That was bittersweet and lovely. Thank you.

Thank you so much! I'm so pleased you enjoyed it and thought it rang true to both of them. And yeah, I wanted to show how they tend to communicate without speaking and also how they tend to think along the same lines, so of course they'd come to the same conclusion without actually discussing it first.

So I started reading this story and was all set for it to be just Dean and Sam recuperating after the finale, which would've been great by me--but then I kept reading and it was so much more than that, and lovely. Oh, this is so nicely done, particularly the pacing of the flashback-present cuts; that's hard to do well, and I envy your facility with it.

Also, there were a couple of times where I had to stop and sit back for a second and say, "Oh, Sam" or "Oh, Dean," which is usually something that only happens with the show, not with fic. E.g., Sam forcing Dean to take the pain meds, or this:

Finally, Dean says, "Do the others come back, too?" and there's something so young and sad in his voice that Sam thinks his heart is going to break.

Oh my GOD. That broke my heart, too.

Beautiful work. Memorying this.

This was wonderful. I loved the blend of past and present with the flashbacks and the use of the selkie within the story. Also loved the nod to Pinky and the Brain. Thanks for writing this!
