fic commentary: Straight on Till Morning

Dec 06, 2005 11:11

bluerosefairy asked for commentary on Straight on Till Morning, which is quite possibly my favorite of my own stories, though not, perhaps, the best. I think it was the first time I wrote Bring Back Black fic, a genre near and dear to my heart.

You can read it here without commentary.

And yeah, I find it easier to have him refer to the dog as Padfoot. I don’t think of them separately, and the wolf is certainly not Moony,

Idle thought: do you think that might be because Sirius can choose to be Padfoot, and so there's some element of distinction between his humanself and his dogself, whereas Remus has no choice but to be the wolf on full moon nights, and so it's much more "part of" him?

Anyway - thanks for the commentary. I love this story, and your comments just make it even more fascinating.

Well, I don't subscribe to "the wolf within" thing, and I don't think it gives Remus much in the way of advantages (strength or supersenses or what have you) though I wouldn't be surprised if people in the wizarding world believed it, and that Remus has been taught to keep his emotions in check for fear of being seen as too aggressive and dark.

I'm glad you enjoyed both the story and the commentary!

That story just makes me really, really happy. I don't really know what else to say. Heh. I love reading the commentary.

I was trying to pick a story yesterday but I couldn't decide. Have you done commentary on Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered? I mean, I know it's sort of easy to figure out where the inspriation came from. But it makes me laugh so hard every time I read it.

I have not. I can put it on the list, if you like. And I'm glad it makes you laugh. *g*

Heh. Yeah, I would love to hear the thought process behind it. That is one of my favorite Buffy episodes, in part because I think the love spell is something we all sort of fantasize about using and it's really fun to see how messed up it could actually be. Makes me feel better about not being able to use it.

Plus, Remus pines so prettily while simutaniously freaking the fuck out. There is no bad there. *g*

Thank you! I like insouciant Sirius. He must have been, given what we know about him. And it's a lot of fun to write him that way.

Also, why wasn't there more about Lily in HBP??

Because we can't know stuff yet for plot reasons? Harry's almost complete disinterest in her, even with Slughorn there going, "Lily, Lily, Lily" every five seconds, drives me nuts!

"Well, Remus, we brought our lost boy home." *sniffles*

I do believe Sirius is alive I do! I do! - hey it can't hurt to shout it out every now and then or every 108 minutes

I loved this story, loved the Peter Pan refs and the feel and tone
Reading the commentary along with the story was very fun I loved reading how you saw things

Excellent!

Glad you enjoyed it!

Good decision to stick with this line, I think. I really like it. It feels so much like Sirius and yeah, it's funny.

Thanks! I do think it sounds like him and it is funny, if crude. Which I imagine was one of Sirius's favorite things to be.
