[Don't fret, Allen. She is the master of turning things that should help into things of mass destruction. And she's just gonna stay curled up in there here ball, biting her lip when he leans his head against hers, because she's a bundle of confusion and nerves, heart pounding unpleasantly.] It's probably better if we don't, then, right?
[He wishes that there were a way he could calm her down. Allen nods a little and then gets an idea, getting to his feet and pulling Lenalee up to hers.]
Then we'll find another way to pass the time, mm? [He threads her arms around his neck and settles his hands on her hips, foreheads touching as he closes his eyes, starting to hum "You've Really Got A Hold On Me" just for the sake of having a song. Slowly Allen starts to sway and shift their steps.]
[Giving a surprised but somewhat muted yelp as he pulls her to her feet.] Like ho-
[Oh. She hesitates a moment before actually letting her arms drape around his neck proper, squinting at him in the dark in search of an expression. It's too dim to find one, of course. But the gentle press of his forehead against hers makes a smile bubble up, and it just grows from there once he starts the song. She doesn't recognize it, but also doesn't care, because it's the sound of his voice as he hums the bars that she finds herself focusing on instead. Lenalee lowers her eyes to the floor between them and laughs softly. This is kind of frivolous.
She's missed frivolous.
So she relaxes into his hold, thumb brushing the nape of Allen's neck as she adjusts her own, and follows his steps. Even without knowing the song, she does manage to hum a few correct notes with him.]
[Allen smiles and briefly touches his nose to her cheek, humming other songs from his own era that he's familiar with. Slow songs perfect for the kind of dancing that they're doing right now in such a small space, even if they happen to be love songs. He's not singing them so there's no way that Lenalee will really know the words to them. And her efforts to hum along make him smile more, the happiness from it evident in the lighter pitch his voice takes, a sort of laugh in reply.
Allen would be more than happy to be this frivolous with her in the DR if given the opportunity. Next literal ballroom expect a gentlemanly bow from an uncloaked Allenpire and an extended hand as a waltz picks up. Shifting seamlessly into "At Last"]
[To be honest, Lenalee isn't entirely aware that the songs he's humming are even actual songs at all. As far as she's aware, he could be making them up on the spot. They seem a little too structured for that, but that's exactly the point: how would she know if he's humming his own tunes or love songs?
She'll appreciate that so much, you don't even realize. The ballroom events the DR occasionally held have always been some of her nicer experiences. Dancing with her brother or wallflowering to watch others make the dance floor their own... that sort of thing.
Once he gets near to the end of "At Last", she closes her eyes, too. Then- and he might know it's coming by the fluttery little sounds her body's making- she tips her head up and touches their lips together. She's still keeping to the movement of their dancing and pulls back right after so only their foreheads are touching again. It feels less like forcing intimacy and more like kissing him because the moment made her want to.]
[Which will be for the best. Sob. Most songs that are slow are either about heartbreak or about love. And as a lounge player he knows both but he doesn't think heartbreak would be appropriate here with Lenalee in his arms. Neither of them have anything to break and as for love...well, it'll always be more friendly-love than anything else.
Allen would love to dance with her~
The next song falters a little bit but picks up again and Allen smiles, twisting his head a little to nose at her like he did the last time they were together in an intimate setting. But it hadn't been his intent, to make the mood right to prompt a kiss, it was simply another way to pass the time. So Allen keeps swaying, keeps humming, though his arms might have gone around her waist more to keep her closer.]
[And even then, songs about heartbreak are by association songs about love. Not that Lenalee knows much about either. Little time for music in a war, after all.
She's not terribly good at dancing properly, but she'd still really like that. <3
Oh, she remembers him nosing at her like that. Kind of difficult to forget- it's not exactly the sort of gesture she frequently gets. And even if he hadn't intended anything beyond a way to fill the time, she still kind of wants to kiss him, and at least slow dancing with him makes it feel less demanding to do it than if she'd simply walked over and forced one on him. She'd never be able to do it that way. After a pause, she leans her cheek against his shoulder, thumbing over the nape of his neck a second time, and tries to match a few more notes.]
[For him it's a small little gesture that means so much, especially when your sensitivity to touch is much stronger, the contact itself means something different. For him it's something comforting and not at all intimate, something to sooth rattled nerves and remind the one being nosed there's someone there. Allen falls into humming a slow waltz, shivering so slightly as she rubs at his neck with her thumb. It'll always be sensitive to touch like that.]
[It is comforting! But it also has that connotation with her now, because of the circumstances that he first did it in. She'll grow to realize what he means by it after a little while longer of spending time with him, for sure.
And a waltz she can hum along with just fine, so once she recalls the rhythm, Lenalee lets her own quiet humming join his... until she notices the slightest tremble of a shiver. Then she goes quiet and stills her hand, because she'd. Kind of let that sensitivity slip her mind. But slow it creeps back on in, and she goes a little red, shifting her arms around him.]
S-Sorry... I for-forgot.
[And wishes she didn't want to keep doing it anyway.]
[At least he'll get the chance to introduce it under different circumstances in the DR, hopefully. And that'll probably help Allen's case with it more than it does right now.
Having her arms more firmly around his neck helps, he's not much taller than current canon versions of himself (just an inch or two) and he's trying not to make her holding onto him difficult.]
It's alright, I-I fed the other night so...
[She's got no worries about him biting, he's full.]
[It definitely will. Once she adjusts to them, that is.
Such a tallsprout. But really, it's quite comfortable like this, with his arms around her and everything- even if she has to reach up a little to loop her arms round his neck. Feels romantic, and not just in an intimate way, but in that Victorian manner that she sees so little of for a child of the 1800s. She shifts her grip so she won't be tempted to resume stroking his neck, then pulls back slightly, frowning.]
[Which is why he always says he's not a sprout, he's tall. D: But he's glad that he's able to give her a bit of that romance with them just being friends, with nothing but the purest intentions in his head for her. Sometimes it's nice to just have that feeling without having to worry about all of the relationship issues that come with it.
He pauses a little, thinking.] Depends on how much I have to eat. A full meal keeps me going for two days, maybe three in the summer before I have to eat again.
You're not... starving yourself anymore, though, are you? [Her hands tighten again, though this time it's more out of concern than wanting to be intimate.]
---
[He can hear the fidgets, the winding, the thinking, the jovial tone that sounds so forced. And he blushes yet again.]
I-I promised that I wouldn't again.

Oh. [Drops her gaze, some unease creeping into her voice.] "Fed" makes it sound so... brutal.
[Ignoring that it really is, and that the entire concept of vampires was something she'd been very wary of back home.]

Allen noses at her cheek, grimacing a little.] It's an ugly word in that context, I know.
I try not to use it if I can help it. Try not to feed until I have to. [That and not worry Lavi or his twin anymore.]
