when my little girl was in pre-k her teacher made a big deal about her art. Supposedly if a child 5 or younger draws both a head and a body with limbs, they have artistic gifts. Most children don't draw the bodies.

Just to explore this a little futher, I pulled out my son's drawing from Pre-k and sure enough his early drawings do not have heads and bodies. His kindergarten pictures do though.

I see what you are saying though...look how artistic and outsiderish the drawing of Daddy is... and the self portrait is just too cute :D

My Mom is an artist and used to be a gradeschool teacher. She was blown away and very impressed by my early attempts at art. She encouraged me and gave me every advantage, artisitcally/creatively. Which is lucky for me, since I was such a strange child and would sit around all day, drawing weird things, like the typewriter, birdcage, peacock feathers etc...

Yes- I LOVE the "Daddy" portrait too!!! (It speaks volumes about my relationship with my father.)

That's very interesting about children drawing a body under the age of 5. Sounds like you have another artist in the family! :-)

I love the coloring book page!!
Will has just discovered the joy of putting marks on a page. I have his very first drawing on our fridge. He just grabbed a sharpie out of my hand and started stabbing at the page!

Yes...I was way into color and pattern from a very early age! Some of those color combos on that coloring book page boggle my mind. When I'm feeling stuck with a piece of art, I study it for answers on combining colors in oddball yet pleasing ways! :-)

That's great that your son is discovering the joy of creating! So Cool that he reached for the Sharpie too!!! (Love those pens!) He's lucky to have a Mom who is so creatively gifted. I'm sure that he'll surprise and wow you with his art. (My Son inspires me all the time with his paintings and I have quite a refridgerator gallery!)

my Grandparents saved every scrap of art I gave them as gifts. It was very touching when I inherited their collection of my early art after they passed away. I felt like I had received quite a gift and felt so loved because they valued everything I created. :-)

I think that it's important for parents/grandparents to value their childrens gifts and somehow find a way to save a time capsule for their kids. I've saved up a huge box of art, school reports, short stories that my 11 year old has created over the years. He LOVES going through that box! I'm sure that when he gets older, those scraps of paper will have even deeper meaning to him.

i love them, and I can't believe you still have them...
Now, you wanna make some money... here are two ideas.
i.
put them on t shirts either photoshop enhanced and manipulated or not.

2. Market them as outsider art kid genius on ebay... or art from your inner child1
love that

oh, i really like that...

I want to do it...
with "my inner child needs a nanny" written below it! LOL

oh,

that is a good one...

You're so cute- trying to find a way for me to squeeze some $$$ out of this! ;-) I'm just enjoying sharing them. No dollar to be made. They've given me so much joy and comforted me greatly after my grandparents deaths. Those pieces of childhood art also helped confirm for me that I'm on the right path and have been an artist since age 3! :-) Wait until I share what I did when I was a teenager....
