The only way to get the funding is to ask, as you are. Good ol' webqatch (look! I spelled it right!) is downright shameless about it, and willing to embarrass himself while at it--thus the amazingness of his donations. (love ya, webbie!)
So ask, ask, ask. Tell EVERYONE you know or meet what your're doing. While walking, I told strangers in elevators, in long lines, everywhere. Once in a while someone would just hand over a five or a twenty, along with their story of who they knew that had suffered or recovered from this awful disease. When at a conference a year or two later I ran into someone walking for the same walk in a different city, who was selling fimo pins she made herself, I handed over a twenty. I didn't know her from Eve, but she was doing what I had done.
So ask, and tell everyone what you are doing. You're doing great so far, and will make it.
