A Daily Show - worthy fill in for The Daily Show

I'm catching up on my Daily Show episodes from this week. That's *A* Daily Show, as it's been renamed, not *THE* Daily Show - the distinction being marked by the former's lack of writers due to the Writers' Guild of America strike.

I'm impressed. His first show sans writers was rocky and awkward, and he acknowledged as such.

It's quite difficult for me to understand, what is writing and what is just preparation. Does writing mean word by word script or also ideas for show? Does it mean that if there are no writers then Jon needs to prepare everything alone? The items for the show and ideas could still be collected by a team of people without writers and one showman could perform the stuff. (confused Kaido)
