Florida's Gulf coast and points east and north set cold records and/or close repetitions of cold winters and springs this past year. In Lakeland many trees, bushes and vines which had thrived in the past were killed by the cold this year. Our neighbor's had grown a cactus close to their house several years ago. It had gotten so tall they had to move it a few feet away from the house as it was bumping into the eaves. This winter it died from the cold. All over our neighborhood people have removed plants which had died - we'll be digging out a palm stump that had been hit by cold the past 2 or 3 years, but died this year as the cold continued periodically for about 2 months. We finally achieved "normal" temperatures the past few days - 80's during the day, but still going down to the mid 50's at night.
We're going through climate changes - but they have happened before! Climate tends to go through cycles.
