I'm having trouble with the whole notion of "pay attention to the injury, and slow down at the first complaint." It's not the first time, but it's never a fun situation. And it makes me feel like a slacker when there's real work to be done.
I totally understand that, my friend. I do the same myself; add to which, my family has an incredible pain tolerance so I keep soldiering on long after I should have stopped.
Try adding some arnica lotion and/or "under the tongue" pellets for the pain.
