Latest on my shoulder, part II

Well, finally got up with the doc to find out the results of my MRI and I think the results are kind of mixed as for if they are good or bad. The good is that I haven't torn the rotator cuff or any other ligaments and whatnot in my shoulder. The bad is that the pain is being caused by arthritis at the end of my collarbone where it meets the ( Read more... )

what about radiofrequency treatment? It takes a bit longer than injections, but having an MRI that confirms arthritis (a requirement)... depending on whether the area that is arthritic is one they actually do the procedure on, it helps a ton, for years at that.

sorry i'm so behind on reading stuff (I think I wished you a happy birthday? If not, well... yeah, belated... or belated even if the first was on time...) ... been in the hospital so much my whole year has been a bust.

I hope they figure out a less invasive way to handle it. In what they claim is about 3 years, stem cell work they are getting refined will be the new joint replacement... they end up replacing the lining that (normal osteo)arthritis wears down and get everything back to being cushioned. You don't have RA, right? So your arthritis would be the usual wear and tear culprit?

He didn't mention radiofrequency treatment. I think he went with the cortisone suggestion because of me wanting immediate relief due to sports. I do have to say that it isn't bothering me all that much now. Or not more than normal.

I think you did indeed wish me a happy bday it was a fun time and the party turned out well. So being 40 isn't that bad. Or at least it hasn't sunk in yet.

Nope just regular osteo, I'm thinking that I'm also getting it in my toe and possibly my hip. I'm open to waiting on doing any kind of invasive surgery. I think if I didn't play volleyball, I probably wouldn't have noticed the pain so much. Especially considering that it's in my left shoulder.

The arthritis is bearable I'm just glad I know what's going on. If only I knew what was going on with my kidneys that I have to keep getting tests.

That is why I wondered about radiofrequency--it's non-surgical, just stick an ice pack on it off and on for a couple days--I had it done on a Friday morning and walked around the mall half an hour later... definitely not grueling considering they give lots of lidocaine on-site (actually, immmmediate relief=lidocaine on the spot, also what they use to check and see if RF might work--they test the site to see if it responds to numbing the nerves)... anyway, it took <2 weeks to alleviate over 75% of *MY* lumbar pain ... then about 3.5 weeks for the sacral and a month for the far upper neck that for me was a lot more tiring and tingled a lot more... but nothing lidoderm (also something to dry--they are patches of 12 hours on, 12 hours off lidocaine. Just cut them to size, put them on the areas needed, and it takes a lot of the edge off) can't relieve. The steroid injection is only bad if it's right at a tiny joint, but I did hate them--my wrist especially was not cool with it. My hips, though, are majorly relieved from it, and it's fine ( ... )
