i am listening to my power ballad mix and it's bringing me down. i noticed that a lot of these songs have questions, though cliched, that at one time we all may have asked ourselves, such as "is this love that i'm feelin?" and "if i close my eyes forever would it all remain the same?" (though maybe not in those exact words.) there are also ( Read more... )

no that's from a few months ago, but that's basically what my hair always looks like, either just a bit shorter or longer.

I know what you mean, by the power ballad lyrics. I get really embarrassed with myself sometimes when a trite or cheesy lyric grips me for some reason and I feel like I can "relate" ;) More often than not, it happens with synth-pop for me, most recently Electronic (but at least not the "rap" song).

I love your new icon too :) I don't know if I ever mentioned it before, but you bear significant resemblance (but only at a few angles) to Djuna Barnes. At least I think so...but then again I'm kind of obsessed with her, so if you don't see it, I'm probably just a little crazy :D

yeah it's amazing, about the powerballad/cheese thing- i've discussed it with kugelkopf" and babystrange. after i first created the power ballad disc 1, kugelkopf" and i were driving around late at night listening to it and singing along, and at some point he says "god, this music is kind of depressing." same thing w/ "careless whisper" type stuff- if you immerse yourself in the heartwrenching lyrics it can be depressing, but as you objectively look at it and really pay attention to the sax solo, you feel like a dork for letting it get to you, YET IT DOES ANWYAY ( ... )

I'm sure it's difficult to see the resemblance from your point of view, and I guess it's not one of those "uncanny" resemblances ;)

But I thought I'd tell ya, as Alli noted below, that Barnes was considered to have MAD STYLE in her adulthood. Much like you ;)

Interesting take on power ballads. There is something universal about them, hence why the lyrics are hardly personal, yet they effect people at a personal level. Very bizarre dichotomy.

I'm a 4w5, and I hate Christian Death, so don't you dare pigeon hole me!! ;p

as a 4w5, i am sure my power ballad tirade struck a cord.

as for xian death, i actually really only like 'only theatre of pain'. actually i OMG LOVE IT. but other than that, no.
